Job summary

Triply Amsterdam is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our team at the campus of VU University Amsterdam. You will contribute to the core of our database engine, focusing on performance, scalability, and correctness in production systems.

You’ll design storage formats, indexing, and query execution strategies, extend the planner and executor, and collaborate with a small, international team to deliver practical, real-world improvements in linked data tooling.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of experience in systems-level programming.
• Experience building or extending database engines, query processors, storage systems, or similar performance-critical software.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
• Experience with performance profiling and debugging tools (e.g. perf, gdb, Valgrind, flamegraphs).
• Familiarity with modern development workflows: Git, CI/CD, automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, Develop & Test Robust Software: Build and maintain core components of our database engine with focus on scalability, correctness, and maintainability.
• Optimize for Real-World Performance: Profile and benchmark complex workloads and guide architectural decisions.
• Collaborate & Communicate Effectively: Work with engineers on design reviews and testing, sharing knowledge across the team.
• Pragmatism: Balance ideal architecture with practical constraints, refactor when needed, and maintain high developer and user experience.
• Support the Team & Broader Organization: Help diagnose issues and assist product and support teams as needed.
