Job summary
JDE Peet's in Utrecht is seeking a Science & Modelling Intern starting March 2026 to adapt and implement models from literature for coffee brewing processes. You will gain hands-on experience with advanced modelling and data analysis in a food engineering context.
Responsibilities include mathematical modelling, data analysis, presenting findings, and assisting with experiments. The internship offers a monthly allowance and travel compensation.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a BSc or MSc program for the entirety of the internship, preferably in Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python and a solid foundation in mathematical modelling and data analysis; English fluency.
- Willingness to dedicate at least 5 months and commit to 5 days per week (4 in-office, 1 remote).
Responsibilities
- Mathematical modelling of brewing kinetics adapting models from literature to describe dispersive flow and mass transfer in porous media.
- Simulate extraction of dissolved solids and components; fit parameters to experimental data.
- Data analysis and visualization to validate models and extract insights.
- Present findings to internal teams and assist with experiments as needed.
