AIG Malaysia Insurance Berhad is seeking an experienced Underwriter for Auto & Personal Property based in Kuala Lumpur. You will own and support underwriting, governance, portfolio management, and stakeholder collaboration to achieve top and bottom-line results.

Responsibilities include ensuring quality underwriting, price adequacy, and guidelines development, while working with internal teams to optimize processes and maintain regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Three plus years of proven experience in insurance, preferably Auto and Personal Property underwriting.
• Strong relationship skills with customers and intermediaries across a broad range of stakeholders.
• Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication.

How you will create an impact

We are looking for an experienced candidate who will support the department and be responsible within the underwriting function of the Auto and Personal Property lines of business within Malaysia with ownership of key outcomes, that includes the support of underwriting, governance, portfolio management, and working the eco-system from managing stakeholders to implementing processes to achieve the desired top and bottom line results.

• Accountability for underwriting performance with respect to topline, profitability and loss ratio.
• Support the implementation of underwriting growth/corrective actions, best practices and guidelines to ensure quality underwriting, risk selection, rating and pricing adequacy.
• Apply and adhere to framework of Underwriting Authority and operate within the delegation of authority.
• Review new and renewal underwriting referrals and provide timely approval or modifications.
• Support in developing, updating and improving underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures, referral processes and ensuring compliance with the latest regulatory requirements.
• Support the operational execution of the underwriting process, including managing system enhancements, claims/service levels, customer satisfaction indicators, and fulfillment process.
• Support pricing and portfolio management initiatives, including regular analyses and reviews to assess business performance, underwriting results, loss ratios, market/competitor activity and trends.
• Ensure compliance to peer reviews and support all relevant audits.
• Jointly develop and support implementation of action plans with key stakeholders based on audit recommendations and findings.
• Support the development of new products and/or product enhancements.
• Support the development of Product and Underwriting training programs.
• Manage internal and external stakeholders including distribution teams, partners, agents, dealers, operations, IT, vendors, legal, claims, FP&A, product development, IT and other functions to ensure awareness of underwriting activities and full compliance to all regulatory and internal AIG requirements, rules, standards and procedures.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Three plus years of proven experience in insurance preferably in Auto and Personal Property underwriting.
• People management with strong relationship with customers and intermediaries with the ability to manage a broad range of stakeholders.
• Proven technical skills and acumen in underwriting risks and driving for results.
• Highly collaborative approach across functions and flexible in working independently and within a team.
• Understands the Auto and Personal Property business model and underwriting methodology, with relevant market knowledge.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Fluent in English. Fluency in one other languages is a plus.
