Job summary

Arthrofix Surgical Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a hands-on Technical Support Specialist to repair, maintain and support medical instruments and equipment across hospital sites.

You will troubleshoot, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, install and commission equipment, and provide on-site assistance at hospitals and customer sites, ensuring compliance with safety standards and manufacturer instructions. Experience with Electrical Safety Testing and knowledge of IEC 60601/IEC 62353 is a plus,

Qualifications

• Diploma / Certificate in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience in equipment servicing, repair, troubleshooting or maintenance is advantageous.
• Experience with medical devices or hospital equipment is a plus.
• Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams and troubleshooting instructions.
• EST training or certification including IEC 62353 / IEC 60601 is advantageous; willing to undergo EST training if not certified.

Job description

We are looking for a hands-on and technically competent Technical Support Specialist to provide repair, maintenance and technical support for medical instruments and equipment.

The role involves troubleshooting equipment issues, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, supporting equipment installation and commissioning, and providing on-site technical assistance at hospitals and customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

Perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of medical instruments and equipment.

Carry out preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and company procedures.

Diagnose equipment faults and identify required parts or corrective actions.

Perform functional testing after repair or maintenance to ensure equipment is operating properly.

Provide on-site technical support at hospitals, clinics and customer premises when required.

Coordinate with suppliers or manufacturers for technical support and complex repairs when necessary.

Provide on-site technical support during live clinical demonstrations of scope tower systems, including troubleshooting and resolving technical glitches or equipment issues in real time.

2. Electrical Safety Testing (EST)

Perform Electrical Safety Testing on medical electrical equipment after receiving the required training and competency.

Conduct testing in accordance with applicable standards and procedures, including IEC 62353 / IEC 60601 requirements, where applicable.

Perform relevant electrical safety measurements such as protective earth resistance, leakage current and other required tests according to the equipment classification and applicable test procedure.

Record actual test readings, acceptance limits and Pass/Fail results accurately.

Prepare and maintain Electrical Safety Test Reports / EST records for submission to hospitals or customers.

Ensure the electrical safety analyzer and other test equipment used are properly maintained and within valid calibration.

Maintain supporting records such as equipment calibration certificates, test reports and service documentation.

3. Documentation & Technical Records

Prepare service reports, maintenance records, EST reports and other technical documentation.

Maintain accurate records of equipment service history, repairs, spare parts replaced and testing performed.

Ensure all documentation is completed promptly and accurately.

Maintain technical manuals, service documents and relevant manufacturer instructions.

4. Customer & Technical Support

Provide technical assistance and basic equipment-use guidance to customers where required.

Communicate professionally with hospital Biomedical / BEMS personnel, healthcare staff, suppliers and internal teams.

Follow hospital procedures and safety requirements while carrying out on-site work.

Respond to service requests and equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.

5. Tools, Spare Parts & Equipment

Maintain service tools, test equipment and spare parts in proper working condition.

Monitor spare-part requirements and inform Management when replenishment is required.

Ensure measuring and testing equipment requiring calibration is sent for calibration before its due date.

Qualifications

Diploma / Certificate in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical field.

Relevant hands-on experience in equipment servicing, repair, troubleshooting or maintenance will be an advantage.

Experience with medical devices or hospital equipment will be an added advantage.

Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.

Able to read technical manuals, diagrams and troubleshooting instructions.

Relevant training, competency or certification in Electrical Safety Testing of medical electrical equipment, particularly IEC 62353 / IEC 60601, will be an added advantage.

Candidates without EST qualification must be willing to undergo relevant EST training and competency development.

Suruhanjaya Tenaga electrical competency certification, where applicable, will be an added advantage but is not mandatory for this role.

Possess good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Able to work independently and attend customer sites when required.

Willing to travel for service assignments where necessary.

Possess a valid driving licence.
