Job summary

Sonepar Malaysia is seeking a pre-sales technical support specialist to back international project business (Singapore and Australia) from the SEA Shared Service Office. You will review customer specifications and drawings, prepare quotations and tender submissions, and provide pre-sales support across engineering, sales and operations to ensure compliant, competitive proposals.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret customer specifications, technical drawings and bill of quantities to identify product requirements and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Prepare quotations, cost estimates, technical proposals and tender submissions in accordance with customer and project requirements.
• Provide pre-sales technical support by recommending suitable product configurations and participating in technical discussions with customers.
• Evaluate technical requirements, perform basic engineering calculations and prepare supporting technical documentation as needed.
• Liaise with suppliers, principals and third-party vendors for pricing, technical information and delivery commitments.

The role is responsible for supporting international project business (Singapore and Australia division) from the SEA Shared Service Office by reviewing customer specifications and technical drawings, preparing competitive quotations and tender submissions, and providing technical support throughout the pre-sales process. The incumbent acts as a bridge between local entity with overseas business stakeholders, customers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure proposed solutions meet technical and commercial requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review and interpret customer specifications, technical drawings and bill of quantities to identify product requirements and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Prepare quotations, cost estimates, technical proposals and tender submissions in accordance with customer and project requirements.
• Provide pre-sales technical support by recommending suitable product configurations, proposing alternative solutions and participating in technical discussions with customers.
• Evaluate technical requirements, perform basic engineering calculations and prepare supporting technical documentation where required.
• Liaise with suppliers, principals and third-party vendors to obtain pricing, technical information and delivery commitments for project proposals.
• Maintain accurate quotation, tender and project records, and support the smooth handover of awarded projects to the operations or project execution team.
• Monitor order progress, project schedules and customer requirements to ensure timely fulfilment of commitments.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders through responsive and professional support.
• Coordinate effectively across theSEA Shared Service Office and Singapore/Australia teams to ensure service continuity, timely responses and alignment with business priorities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing customer feedback, market insights and opportunities to enhance products, services and processes.

About you

• Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1–3 years of experience in a technical or engineering support role, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or engineering services environment.
• Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and bill of quantities.
• Exposure to AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar CAD software would be an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving skills to assess technical requirements and propose effective solutions.
• Clear and professional communication, both written and verbal, to interact with customers and internal teams.
• Willingness to work closely with engineers, sales, operations and project teams to deliver cohesive solutions.
• Precision in reviewing specifications, preparing documentation, and ensuring compliance with standards.
