McDonald’s Malaysia- Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd is seeking a Sustainability Manager to develop and implement initiatives aligned with our environmental goals. You will lead energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and carbon reduction projects while coordinating NSO, reimages, and existing restaurants.

  • Must have 3–5 years of experience in sustainability projects or facilities engineering.
  • Experience in QSR, retail, hospitality, or facilities management is advantageous.

Job description

Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives aligned with company environmental goals.

Drive projects related to energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and carbon reduction.

Coordinate sustainability programs for new store openings (NSO), reimages, and existing restaurants.

Monitor sustainability performance and identify improvement opportunities across restaurant operations.

Energy & Utilities Management

Analyze utility consumption trends including electricity, water, and gas usage.

Identify opportunities for energy optimization and operational cost savings.

Support implementation of energy-efficient equipment and systems.

Coordinate initiatives such as LED upgrades, solar PV systems, HVAC optimization, and smart energy monitoring systems.

Conduct energy audits and site assessments when required.

Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and corporate policies.

Coordinate documentation and reporting related to environmental compliance.

Support waste management and grease management improvement initiatives.

Liaise with government authorities, utility providers, and external consultants on sustainability-related matters.

Green Building & Sustainable Design

Support sustainable design integration in restaurant development and construction projects.

Review materials, systems, and equipment selections for environmental impact and lifecycle efficiency.

Collaborate with consultants and project teams to improve building sustainability performance.

Support implementation of green certifications or sustainability benchmarking programs where applicable.

Support waste segregation, recycling, and food waste reduction initiatives.

Coordinate with vendors and operations teams on waste collection and recycling programs.

Monitor effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and propose continuous improvements.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Prepare sustainability reports, dashboards, and presentations.

Monitor KPIs related to energy consumption, water usage, waste reduction, and carbon emissions.

Maintain accurate sustainability records and project documentation.

Analyze trends and provide recommendations for operational improvements.

Stakeholder Coordination

Work closely with Operations, Facilities, Construction, Supply Chain, and Equipment Teams to drive sustainability initiatives.

Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure sustainability project execution.

Support sustainability awareness and engagement programs across the organization.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Sustainability Management, Building Services, Facilities Management, or related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in sustainability projects, facilities engineering, energy management, building services, environmental compliance
  • Experience in QSR, retail, hospitality, commercial buildings, or facilities management is an added advantage.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge in sustainability practices and environmental management systems.
  • Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and energy systems.
  • Familiarity with energy audits and utility monitoring.
  • Sound understanding of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy management
  • Ability to analyze utility and operational data.
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools
  • Experience in green building certifications or sustainability frameworks.
  • Exposure to restaurant or commercial facility operations.
  • Knowledge in waste management and recycling systems.
  • Familiarity with ESG and sustainability reporting practices.
  • Willingness to travel for site assessments and project implementation.
