Job summary

Upscale Sdn Bhd in Malaysia seeks an experienced Shipping / Ocean Freight Manager to oversee ocean freight activities, focusing on procurement, line management, cost optimisation and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate has hands-on ocean freight procurement experience and has worked with shipping lines, freight forwarders or NVOCCs. You will lead RFQs, negotiate terms, monitor market trends and collaborate across sales, operations and finance to ensure smooth shipment execution.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, business administration or related field.
Minimum 5 years of relevant shipping, ocean freight, or logistics experience.
Hands-on ocean freight procurement experience is essential.
Experience managing relationships with shipping lines is highly preferred.
Strong negotiation and analytical skills; good communication.

Responsibilities

Oversee ocean freight procurement activities and contracts.
Develop and maintain relationships with shipping lines, carriers and forwarders.
Negotiate freight rates, terms and capacity commitments.
Monitor market rates, capacity and surcharges to identify savings.
Evaluate and select shipping lines and logistics providers.
Manage RFQs, tenders and freight negotiations.
Track transit times, schedule reliability and service quality.
Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Warehouse, Finance and CS teams.
Review freight costs and identify efficiency improvements.
Monitor supplier performance and conduct reviews.
Resolve operational issues including delays and documentation.
Ensure compliance with customs, trade and company requirements.
Prepare reports on freight spend, savings and KPIs.
Identify process improvements to reduce logistics costs.
