We are looking for a Steel Structure Engineer to oversee and coordinate steel structure fabrication, installation, and construction activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that steel structure works are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise steel structure fabrication and installation works at workshop and project sites.
- Review and interpret structural drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and construction details.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, QA/QC, Safety teams, subcontractors, and site personnel to ensure smooth execution of works.
- Monitor steel structure fabrication, cutting, drilling, welding, assembly, painting/coating, and installation activities.
- Check dimensions, alignment, levels, bolt connections, welds, and overall installation quality.
- Prepare and verify Material Take-Off (MTO), Bill of Materials (BOM), and material requirements.
- Coordinate material procurement, delivery, storage, and usage to ensure sufficient materials are available for construction.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates on manpower, materials, fabrication, installation, and work completion.
- Identify construction issues, technical problems, and discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions, and propose suitable solutions.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors on technical and construction matters.
- Ensure all steel structure works comply with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements.
- Coordinate inspection activities with QA/QC and arrange required inspections and testing.
- Ensure proper documentation of inspection records, fabrication records, material certificates, welding documentation, and other relevant project documents.
- Monitor and control manpower productivity and ensure works are completed according to the project schedule.
- Ensure all work activities comply with company HSE requirements, site safety rules, and applicable regulations.
- Attend site meetings, coordination meetings, and progress meetings when required.
- Perform other duties related to steel structure works as assigned by the Project Manager or Management.
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in steel structure fabrication, installation, construction, or related industrial projects.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural/fabrication drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience in steel structure fabrication and site installation is highly preferred.
- Familiar with structural steel materials, connections, welding, bolting, cutting, drilling, and erection methods.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or other relevant engineering software.
- Experience in preparing MTO/BOM and checking material requirements.
- Good knowledge of construction practices, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
- Able to coordinate effectively with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Able to work independently and under pressure to meet project deadlines.
- Willing to travel and work at project sites when required.
- CIDB registration/card and relevant site safety certifications will be an advantage.
