Job summary

EWL ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION SDN. BHD. in Rawang, Selangor, is seeking a dedicated Assistant QAQC Engineer for our steel fabrication team on the factory floor. You will perform welding inspection, dimensional checks, and ensure compliance with AWS/BS/EN standards and client specs.

The role requires 1–2 years in structural steel fabrication, reading shop drawings, and hands-on inspection. Fresh graduates with strong internship experience may be considered. Certification advantages are a plus.

Qualifications

• Ability to read complex shop drawings and GA drawings independently.
• Deep understanding of AWS D1.1 or BS EN 1090 standards would be beneficial.
• Hands-on measurement with tape, level, weld gauge, and related tools.
• Certification such as CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI is advantageous.
• NDT qualifications (UT/MT) are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily in-process inspections during cutting, fitting, welding, and painting stages.
• Perform Visual Inspection (VT) on welds and verify dimensional accuracy against shop drawings.
• Monitor preheating temperatures, check fit-up gaps, and measure Dry Film Thickness (DFT) for coatings.
• Ensure welders adhere to WPS, verify machine settings, and correct electrode/wire usage.
• Verify welder qualifications and proper storage/handling of consumables.
• Coordinate and monitor NDT (UT, MT, RT) performed by third-party labs.
• Prepare and maintain ITP, daily checklists, Mill Certificates, and material traceability records.
• Provide daily progress updates to QAQC Lead / Project Manager on inspection status and issues.
• Raise NCR for defective works and attach photos to daily reports; compile MDR for client handover.
• Liaise with production team to resolve quality issues without delaying deliveries.

You will ensure all structural steel components meet project specifications, international standards (AWS/BS/EN), and client expectations. This role is strictly factory-based, focusing on hands-on welding inspection, dimensional checks, and daily documentation.

Key responsibilities

About you

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Welding Technology, or equivalent.

Minimum 1 to 2 years in a structural steel fabrication workshop.

Fresh graduates with strong steel fabrication internship experience may be considered.

Proficient in reading complex shop drawings and GA drawings independently.

Deep understanding of AWS D1.1 or BS EN 1090 standards.

Hands-on experience with measuring tools (tape measure, level, weld gauge).

CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI certification is an advantage.

NDT Level I or II (UT/MT) certification is an advantage.

Willing to work full-time on the factory floor (noise, dust, heat).

Physically fit to climb, bend, and squat for inspecting large steel members.
