Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a civil/mechanical engineer to develop conceptual and detailed steel structures, and to prepare drawings and 3D models using CAD software.

The role requires 1–3 years’ experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D design tools such as SolidWorks, Tekla, Staad Pro or Sap2000, plus a solid grasp of fabrication, welding, and costing considerations. You will collaborate across departments and support tender preparation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
• 1–3 years of work experience (including Fresh Graduate).
• Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D design software (SolidWorks, Tekla, Staad Pro, Sap2000, or similar).
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, welding, machining, surface treatment, and assembly.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with material take-off, cost estimation, and tender preparation.
• Good understanding of structural steel materials and manufacturing methods.
• Self-motivated and capable of handling multiple projects.
• Able to work independently and collaborate across departments

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary designs for steel structures/ framing.
• Prepare engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Perform basic engineering calculations related to structural integrity, loading, welding, and fabrication requirements.
• Coordinate with production, procurement, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Attend site visits and customer meetings when required.
• Provide technical clarification to clients and internal teams.
• Review customer enquiries, specifications, and drawings.
• Prepare material take-offs, quantity calculations, and cost estimates.
• Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop detailed project cost breakdowns covering materials, fabrication, machining, painting, transportation, and installation.
• Prepare technical and commercial proposals for customers.
• Support contract review and tender submissions
