Job summary

Ecotreat Engineering Sdn Bhd is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Engineer to design and optimize municipal/industrial WWTPs. You will handle process design, hydraulics, PFDs/P&IDs, and technical documentation while supporting field testing and commissioning.

The role requires hands-on experience in site testing, pre-commissioning, start-up, and chemical dosing optimization, with willingness to travel to project sites in Malaysia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, Civil or related engineering discipline.
• Strong knowledge of process design, sizing, mass/energy balance and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize WWTP process and hydraulic designs.
• Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, design basis and calculation sheets.
• Draft FAT/SAT plans, SOPs and O&M manuals.
• Lead pre-commissioning, dry/wet tests, loop checks and plant start-up.
• Troubleshoot process upsets and optimize dosing and operations.
• Conduct field testing and quality control with lab data.
• Travel to project sites (onshore/offshore) for testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors and multidisciplinary teams.

Wastewater Treatment Engineer

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Wastewater Treatment Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in process design, sizing, and hydraulic calculations for municipal and/or industrial wastewater treatment plants, alongside hands-on experience in site testing, installation, and plant commissioning.

Key Responsibilities & Job Requirements

1. Education & Professional Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

2. Technical Knowledge & Design Skills

Process & Hydraulic Design: Demonstrated experience in process design, sizing, mass/energy balance calculations, and hydraulic profile calculations for WWTP facilities.

Treatment Technologies: Deep technical understanding of physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment processes, including:

• Primary treatment (coagulation, flocculation, clarification, DAF)
• Secondary biological treatment (Activated Sludge, MBR, MBBR, SBR, trickling filters, anaerobic digestion)
• Tertiary/Advanced treatment (media filtration, ultrafiltration, RO, UV/chlorine disinfection)

Design Deliverables: Ability to prepare and review key technical documentation, including:

• Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
• Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Process Design Basis & Calculation Sheets
• Control Narratives, Operating Philosophies, and Equipment Datasheets

Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with:
WWTP simulation software (e.g., BioWin, GPS-X, WEST)

Drafting/CAD software (AutoCAD, 3D Plant/REVIT)

Standard calculation tools (MS Excel / Mathcad)

Pre-commissioning & Commissioning: Proven experience executing site pre-commissioning, dry/wet testing, loop checks, and plant start-up procedures.

Process Troubleshooting & Optimization: Ability to troubleshoot biological/chemical process upsets during start-up, seed biological reactors, and optimize chemical dosing.

Field Testing & Quality Control: Hands-on experience with water quality sampling, jar testing, field analytical tests (COD/BOD, TSS, pH, DO, MLSS, SVI), and interpreting laboratory reports.

Documentation: Experience writing and executing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Commissioning Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and O&M Manuals.

Problem-Solving & Agility: Strong analytical mindset to resolve site issues during installation and commissioning under tight deadlines.

Site Readiness & Travel: Willingness to travel to project sites (onshore/offshore) and work in field conditions during testing and commissioning phases.

Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with client representatives, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in WWTP design and field commissioning.
