Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Penang, Malaysia seeks an experienced leader to drive one of our NPI critical projects focusing on yield, cost, and delivery targets. The role requires coordinating R&D, manufacturing and quality teams to achieve reliable product performance and cost reduction.

You will coach junior engineers, build a capable team with strong technical capability and a clear vision, and ensure the organization maintains high standards while navigating an evolving manufacturing landscape.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
• More than 15 years of work experience in high-speed optics packaging with a product engineering focus.
• Experience leading NPI projects and driving yield, cost, and delivery targets.
• Strong communication skills in English and Chinese.

Responsibilities

• Lead one of the NPI critical projects to achieve target yield, cost and delivery.
• Coach junior engineers and build a capable, vision-driven team across CoC, OSA, SFA and testing.
• Supervise NPI project execution, address technical issues and keep projects on track.
• Ensure staffing, motivation, engagement and empowerment to deliver high performance.
• Implement effective interview techniques and foster a learning environment.
• Maintain accurate HR/admin records and ensure policy compliance.
• Uphold ethics, professionalism and quality while protecting IP and export controls.

• Critical Project -40%

Lead one of NPI critical project Yield, cost, delivery meet target. Drive FA, including fails from production, qual, DMR units from module returns, make rework yield improved. Coordinate R&D to make design optimization well qualified and executed smoothly for product Reliability improvement and cost down.

• Coach Role -25%

Coach junior engineers, build up team with both technical capability and big vision able to show team strength, and with extended working scopes across CoC, OSA, SFA and testing through intensive failure analysis experiences.

• Supervision, Management and Leadership -20%
• Technically Supervise NPI projects execution. Ensure technical issue timely addressed and resolved. Direct team for goal setting, and supervise Projects running on-track and meet yield, HPU, cost target.
• Ensure your team is staffed, motivated, inspired, engaged and empowered to deliver a high and sustainable performance level in an ever changing environment at a cost level the organization can sustain and reflects market realities.
• Ensure you have the right people in the right jobs, by consistently using proper interview and selection techniques and methodologies throughout your organization.
• Ensure a learning environment is in place and your team is trained and developed to consistently achieve your organization’s expectations in both the short and long terms.
• Human Resources/ Administrative -5%
• All department information systems, records, reports and metrics are accurate and generated on time.
• Company policy is followed regarding all safety, environmental and ergonomic requirements.
• Company Technology Control Plan, IP protection and Export Compliance requirements are understood and properly followed.
• A high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, competency, and quality is established and maintained.

Education & Experience

• Master or above, majored in Physics, Optical Communications, Material Engineering, Semi-conductor, or equivalent.
• Candidates having suitable professional experience with a BS degree will be considered.
• More than 15 years’ work experience in high speed optics packaging field with product engineer role.
• Wide experiences for critical FA cases for key projects in past.
• Ability to recommend and implement improvements.
• Good communication skills in both English and Chinese.
• Good team player with hard working attitude.
• Must be self-motivated with capability working under pressure.
