Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Penang, Malaysia, is seeking an experienced engineer to lead optical module packaging to align with CTQ and create a technology roadmap.

You will drive cross-functional package development, qualification, and process introductions while coordinating sample builds, costs and capacity reviews. You will also lead failure analysis, manage knowledge databases, and contribute to patent activity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required; master’s preferred in materials, mechanical, or optical engineering.
• 3–5+ years in semiconductor packaging processes (die attach, wire bonding, flip-chip, optical alignment).
• Experience in optics/photonics is a plus.
• Hands-on die attach and wirebond experience is highly desirable.
• Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow technical trends of optical module package and propose process concepts.
• Coordinate package development with cross-functional teams.
• Carry out package/process qualification and document processes (flow, control plan, D/PFMEA).
• Track process development to meet schedule.
• Lead package-level failure analysis and maintain lessons learnt database.
• Release new tech and apply patents.
• Develop new process platform and optimize the development system.

• Follow technical trends of optical module package, propose innovative concepts of process, carry out the introduction according to CTQ and make reasonable technology roadmap.
• Drive and coordinate activities around package development with internal / external cross functional including package design and review, process review, sample build management, cost and capacity review.
• Carry out new package / process qualification, equipment / material introduction, preparing document including process flow, control plan, D/PFMEA, design guidelines, etc.
• Tracking new process development progress to insure phase delivery on schedule.
• Lead package-level failure analysis and improvement action; regularly reviewing failure case and maintain lesson learnt database.
• Responsible for new technical releasing and applying patents.
• In charge of new process platform and optimize the process development system.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor but prefers a master's degree in material, mechanical, optical or related engineering.
• 3 to 5+ years experiences in process for semiconductors packaging (die attach / wire bonding / flip-chip / optical alignment), optics/photonics industry background would be a plus.
• Hands-on experiences on die attach and wirebond process would be a greater plus.

• Possess strong data analytical skills, including six-sigma and statistical analysis tool (JMP, Excel).

Working Conditions

• This role is 100% onsite.
• ~30% business travel is expected.
