Job summary

TECHMAN ELECTRONICS (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD. is seeking an SMT Engineer Technician / Junior Engineer to join our Simpang Ampat, Penang team.

The role supports design, implementation, and optimisation of SMT assembly processes to maintain quality and efficiency in our manufacturing operations. The candidate will assist in setup, calibration, and maintenance of SMT equipment, conduct QA checks, troubleshoot issues, and document procedures while adhering to health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of SMT assembly processes, equipment and technologies.
• Understanding of electronic component soldering techniques and quality standards such as IPC-A-610.
• Proficiency with circuit board design software and equipment control systems.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
• Good communication skills with the ability to document technical information clearly.
• Familiarity with quality management systems and manufacturing standards.
• Mechanical aptitude and practical hands‑on experience with assembly equipment.
• Experience with production line optimisation or process improvement initiatives (preferred).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and basic computer literacy.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise in SMT engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support the setup, calibration and maintenance of SMT equipment including pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, solder printers and inspection systems.
• Conduct testing and quality assurance checks on assembled printed circuit boards to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Assist in the development and optimisation of SMT assembly processes to improve efficiency and reduce defects.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve technical issues.
• Document assembly procedures, process parameters and test results in accordance with company protocols.
• Monitor production workflows and report on key performance metrics and production data.
• Perform solder joint inspection and rework as required to meet quality standards.
• Support the implementation of new products and processes on SMT production lines.
• Assist in training and supporting production staff on SMT assembly procedures and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the manufacturing environment.

This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our surface mount technology operations. As an SMT Engineer Technician / Junior Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and optimisation of our SMT assembly processes. This role is integral to maintaining the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing operations whilst contributing to our commitment to delivering excellence in electronic component assembly.

Key responsibilities
