• Assist in preparing Method Statements and ITPs for consultant approval.
• Coordinate with local design consultants, testing agencies and subcontractors for inspections and submissions.
• Assist with site quality inspections and construction records.

Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Site Technical Assistant (Civil) to join our project team at an industrial plant construction project in Gurun, Kedah. The successful candidate will support the Project Technical Director and Civil/Structural Engineers in day-to-day technical coordination, construction quality control, documentation, and communication with consultants, subcontractors, testing agencies and other project stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

Assist the Project Technical Director and professional engineers with day-to-day site technical management and construction coordination.

Support technical briefings and follow up on technical issues and corrective actions at site.

Review civil and structural drawings and identify discrepancies, conflicts or technical issues between architectural and structural information.

Prepare and follow up on Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical clarification documents.

Assist in preparing and submitting Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and other technical documents for consultant approval.

Follow up on consultant comments and ensure approved technical requirements are properly implemented on site.

Prepare, modify and update construction details and drawings using AutoCAD.

Assist with the review of subcontractor/shop drawings, construction details and as-built drawings.

Coordinate with local design consultants, testing agencies and subcontractors regarding technical clarifications, inspections, material submissions and testing arrangements.

Assist with site quality inspections, inspection of concealed works and construction records.

About you

Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 3 years of relevant site experience in Malaysia, preferably with industrial plant, warehouse, infrastructure or large-scale construction/general contracting projects.

Good understanding of common civil and structural construction activities, including earthworks and site formation, foundations, reinforced concrete works, structural steel works, roads and drainage, and general building and external works.

Familiar with typical technical submission, inspection, testing and approval procedures used on construction projects in Malaysia.

Familiar with relevant Malaysian construction practices, standards and quality requirements.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Able to prepare and communicate technical documents such as RFIs, inspection records, technical correspondence and site reports.

Good command of English, with the ability to communicate effectively with local consultants, subcontractors, testing agencies and other project stakeholders.

Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.

Responsible, proactive and capable of following up technical matters through to completion.

Chinese language ability is an advantage, particularly for coordination with Chinese-speaking project personnel and subcontractors.
