Job summary

Benchmark Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd in Penang seeks a Shipping Clerk to manage documentation, coordinate shipments, and ensure compliance with international trade regulations. You will interact with freight forwarders and customers to maintain smooth, timely deliveries.

You will handle records, support cost analysis, and ensure accurate data entry while communicating with stakeholders in English and Mandarin or Malay when needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process shipping documentation: bills of lading, customs declarations, export licences and commercial invoices.
• Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines and logistics providers to arrange shipments and secure competitive rates.
• Verify accuracy of shipping information including product specs, quantities, weights and destination details.
• Monitor shipment status and provide regular updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Manage warehouse inventory in relation to outbound shipments and coordinate pickup and delivery schedules.
• Ensure compliance with customs regulations, export control requirements and international shipping standards.
• Maintain detailed records of all shipments, communications and transactions in the company’s systems.
• Resolve shipping discrepancies and coordinate with relevant parties to address delays or issues.
• Assist with cost analysis and reporting on shipping expenses and performance metrics.
• Liaise with suppliers, customers and government authorities as required to facilitate smooth operations.

What we're looking for

High school diploma or equivalent; qualification in logistics, supply chain or business administration is advantageous

Proven experience as a Shipping Clerk or in a similar role within import/export, customs brokerage or logistics operations

Proficiency with shipping and logistics software systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications

Strong knowledge of international shipping procedures, customs documentation and trade regulations

Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills to manage multiple shipments simultaneously

Effective communication abilities in English and preferably Mandarin or Malay. We are seeking candidates proficient in both English and Mandarin to effectively communicate with our diverse client base and stakeholders.

Strong numerical and data entry accuracy skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Familiarity with Malaysian customs regulations and procedures is highly desirable

Valid driving licence and willingness to travel when necessary
