Job summary

NIL Technology is seeking an AOI Engineer to bring up, program, optimize, and troubleshoot automated optical inspection systems in Bayan Lepas, Penang. You will work with manufacturing, quality, and NPI teams to ensure reliable inspection and data-driven improvements.

You will develop AOI programs and recipes, calibrate cameras and lighting, and drive ML-based defect classification to reduce escapes and over-rejects while supporting new product introductions.

Qualifications

• Degree in relevant engineering field (electrical, electronics, optical, mechanical, mechatronics, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with AOI and machine vision is required
• Experience programming and configuring AOI/machine-vision equipment
• Knowledge of optical systems, cameras, lighting, image acquisition and processing
• Machine learning experience is a plus
• PLCs, sensors, motion control and industrial communication knowledge is an advantage
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Drive AOI equipment down select and customization

• Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring inspection failures and corrective actions
• Collaborate with Process/Production/Quality/NPI teams to resolve issues
• Develop inspection standards and optimize coverage
• Monitor AOI performance, yield, cycle time and uptime
• Drive continuous improvement for accuracy, throughput and reliability
• Generate inspection reports and analyze production data
• Maintain technical documentation and troubleshooting procedures
• Train production technicians on AOI operation and basic troubleshooting

Job Description

• Troubleshoot AOI equipment, vision systems, cameras, lighting, software, and communication issues.

• Support new product introduction (NPI), line setup, equipment installation, and production ramp-up.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring inspection failures and implement corrective actions.
• Work closely with Process, Production, Quality, Equipment, and NPI Engineering teams to resolve production issues.
• Develop inspection standards and optimize inspection coverage based on product specifications and quality requirements.
• Monitor AOI performance, yield, cycle time, and equipment uptime.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve inspection accuracy, throughput, and system reliability.
• Generate inspection reports and analyze production data to identify trends and process improvements.
• Maintain technical documentation, inspection specifications, machine programs, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Train production technicians and operators on AOI operation and basic troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in relevant engineering field (electrical, electronics, optical, mechanical, mechatronics etc)
• Knowledge in machine vision and hands on experience in automated optical inspection is a MUST.
• Experience in programming and configuring AOI/machine-vision inspection equipment is a MUST.
• Knowledge of optical systems, cameras, lenses, lighting, image acquisition, and image-processing principles.
• Experience in machine learning implementation is an advantage.
• Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, motion control, and industrial communication protocols is an advantage.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
