Agilent Technologies in Penang, Malaysia, seeks an experienced Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to lead mechanical design activities for Agilent products. You will drive architecture, layout, CAD data management, and platform standardization to deliver scalable designs.
Responsibilities include BOM cost estimation, design verification, testing, and root-cause analysis across development, validation, and manufacturing phases. Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration are essential.

Participate in the mechanical design and development of Agilent products, including proposal preparation, technical and risk assessments, concept development, detailed design, engineering analysis, drawing creation, prototyping, testing, and product validation.
Perform engineering calculations, component sizing, and component selection for mechanical designs, including enclosures, structural assemblies, mechanisms, automation systems, thermal management, optical systems, EMI shielding, fluidic systems, and other related subsystems.
Develop and define product mechanical architecture, overall system layout, component placement, CAD database management, and platform standardization to ensure scalable and maintainable product designs.
Own and maintain mechanical Bill of Materials (BOM) cost estimation throughout the product development lifecycle.
Plan and execute mechanical engineering evaluations, characterization studies, functional testing, cyclic life testing, and reliability testing to verify compliance with product requirements.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Marketing, Internal Customers, Test Engineering, Applications Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and other stakeholders, as well as external partners such as suppliers, design partners, and contract manufacturers.
Develop, coordinate, and document mechanical design verification plans, test cases, and validation activities to ensure comprehensive design verification.
Ensure all mechanical designs comply with product requirements, project scope, applicable engineering standards, and quality expectations, while delivering all Product Lifecycle (PLC) deliverables according to committed project milestones.
Lead and conduct root cause investigations, failure analysis, and corrective actions for issues identified during product development, validation, manufacturing, and sustaining phases.
Ensure all engineering documentation, design records, and CAD databases comply with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, engineering change processes, and applicable regulatory standards.
Ensure all assigned designs adhere to Agilent's engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices for quality, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
Bachelor or Master or PhD in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited college/university.
Minimum 8 years of relevant mechanical design experience in R&D environment.
Experience in the designs of automation, mechanism, injection molded plastics, part/material/component selection, die-castings, extrusions, elastomeric parts, sheet metal parts, metal stampings, interconnects, electro-mechanical parts, and EMI shielding.
Familiar with ISO13485 standards and compliance requirement.
Strong technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrate leadership, influencing, communication and planning skills.
Team player who can multi-task and establish good rapport with internal customers/sponsors, cross-functional team members and suppliers.
Able to adapt well in a dynamic working environment, eager to learn new knowledge, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
