Job summary

VAT Group AG is seeking a senior Product Design Engineer- Sustainment to own and drive design across relocation and customization projects. You will translate customer needs into engineering characteristics and ensure robust product deliverables through design guidelines and DFMEA/ PFMEA practices.

Your role demands deep knowledge of mechanical design, GD&T, and 3D-CAD, with strong technical leadership and proactive problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Degree or master in mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient in 3D-CAD with strong GD&T knowledge.
• Excellent communication and teamwork in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead product design knowledge including design, machining, assembly, and related processes.
• Manage the product technical portfolio with support from Customization Design Engineer.
• Lead relocation and customization projects translating customer requests into deliveries.
• Provide technical advice, root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for Product & Quality teams.
• Establish design guidelines and checkers to ensure quality.
• Support ECR/ECN changes and liaising with the engineering change department for production updates.
• Involve in customer audits and provide technical support for complaints.
• Contribute to PFMEA/DFMEA and design walkthroughs.
• Coordinate with industrialization teams and suppliers to drive product optimization.

We are looking for a Product Design Engineer- Sustainment to join our team to drive different scales of customization, relocation, and industrialization projects. The candidate is a lead engineer who is taking full technical ownership of the products, which includes facilitating direct customer engagement, translating customer needs into engineering characteristics and into unique products.The role requires proactive problem-solving, effective communication, and a deep understanding of user needs.

Your responsibilies include, but not limited to:

• Good in product knowledge including design, machining, assembly, and the surrounding processes.
• Responsible in managing the product technical portfolio and keeping it up to date with support from Customization Design Engineer.
• Lead the technical of relocation project and customization project by turning customer-specific request into deliveries.
• Technical lead for Product & Quality team in providing technical advices, root cause analysis and implementing short and long term measures.
• Establishing design guideline and a checker to make sure good design quality.
• Support the Change Request and Change Management, liaising with engineering change department for ECR/ECN implementation at production floor, keeping the product up to date.
• Involved in customer audit and provide technical support for Customer Complaint.
• Support laboratory activities.
• Drive the product industrialization by design improvement, optimization and cost down project.
• Industrialization of new standard and customer specific products in close cooperation with industrialization project managers, HQ-design engineers and product engineers
• Drive product optimization via collaboration with manufacturing departments, supplier development engineers and project buyers
• Render technical support to NPI product until handoff to operations.
• Support customers together with product management and application engineers.
• Perform design review and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) at cross-departmental level.
• Work together with Product Manager in conducting product training.
• Participate in PFMEA, DFMEA and design walkthrough.
• 70% engineering coordination task with 30% design-related task.
• Degree or master in mechanical engineering.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Skilled in 3D-CAD
• Good understanding of GD&T and its application.
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision
• Team player, ability to collaborate professionally in fast-paced environment
• Good communication skills, with good English efficiency.
• Strong analytical skills
• Proactive, agile, creative, self-motivated

Preferred Qualification:

• Experienced with CAD software – SIEMEN NX
• Experienced in change management
• Experienced in project management (structured working method)
• Knowledge to vacuum industry technology
• Experienced in design and application of mechatronic components. (Motor, sensor, heaters and etc)
• Experience in production of cast parts, sheet metal parts, injection-moulding parts.
