We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Legal and Compliance Senior Executive to join our team and provide in-house legal support across the Company's business operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and drafting agreements, providing legal advice to Management and various departments, managing legal documentation, handling disputes and claims, and coordinating with external solicitors where necessary.
The ideal candidate should be practical, detail-oriented, commercially aware and able to work independently in a fast-paced business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day legal advice and support to Management and various departments.
- Identify potential legal risks and recommend practical solutions.
- Advise on legal matters relating to the Company's retail, e-commerce, marketing, employment and business operations.
- Research and interpret applicable Malaysian laws, regulations and legal requirements.
Contract Management
- Draft, review, revise and negotiate commercial agreements, contracts, letters, memoranda and other legal documents.
- Review agreements with suppliers, vendors, landlords, service providers, business partners and other third parties.
- Ensure contracts protect the Company's interests and minimize legal and commercial risks.
- Maintain and monitor the Company's contract database, renewal dates and important legal documents.
Employment & Industrial Relations
- Provide legal support on employment-related matters, including disciplinary actions, misconduct, termination, resignation and other employee issues.
- Work closely with HR Manager on employment contracts, company policies and compliance with applicable employment laws.
- Assist in handling labour and industrial relations matters and liaise with relevant authorities or external solicitors when required.
Disputes & Litigation
- Handle and monitor legal claims, disputes, complaints and demand letters.
- Prepare correspondence, legal documents and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external solicitors on litigation, court matters and other legal proceedings.
- Monitor case progress, deadlines and legal costs and provide updates to Management.
Corporate & Regulatory Matters
- Assist with corporate documentation and statutory compliance matters.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations that may affect the Company's business.
- Assist Management and relevant departments in implementing appropriate legal and compliance measures.
Retail, E-Commerce & Marketing
- Review legal aspects of retail and e-commerce operations, including online sales, marketplace activities and customer-related matters.
- Review advertising, promotional materials, campaigns, terms and conditions and other marketing-related documents.
- Advise on potential legal risks relating to promotions, consumer matters, intellectual property and business practices.
Legal Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain organised records of contracts, legal correspondence, claims, disputes and other legal documents.
- Prepare regular reports and updates for Management on ongoing legal matters.
- Ensure important legal deadlines, contract expiry dates and regulatory requirements are properly monitored.
External Legal Counsel
- Liaise and coordinate with external lawyers, consultants and relevant authorities when required.
- Evaluate legal advice received from external counsel and communicate key implications and recommendations to Management.
- Assist in managing external legal costs and ensure matters are followed up promptly.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) or equivalent.
- Candidates with Malaysian legal qualification / Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) and relevant professional experience will be an advantage.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with in-house, commercial or corporate legal experience.
- Experience in contract drafting, reviewing and negotiation.
- Knowledge of Malaysian employment and commercial laws is an advantage.
- Experience handling disputes, legal claims and liaising with external solicitors.
- Strong legal research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Able to work independently, manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
- Strong business and commercial awareness.
- Mature, responsible and able to maintain strict confidentiality.
