Job summary

What’s Upstate is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and manage enterprise-grade infra across on‑premises and cloud environments. You will work with Dell servers, NetApp and Pure storage, VMware virtualization, and cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) to deliver scalable, secure solutions.

The role requires deep expertise in virtualization, storage, and automation, with a track record of leading complex projects and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering and systems administration.
• Expert-level knowledge of Dell server hardware and management tools (e.g., iDRAC, OpenManage).
• Extensive experience with NetApp storage systems (NFS, CIFS, iSCSI).
• Advanced proficiency in VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter.
• Advanced proficiency in AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Strong scripting skills for automation and monitoring.
• Networking fundamentals, SAN environments, and Windows/Linux server administration.
• Cloud networking fundamentals, compute, storage, and identity management.
• Ability to lead complex infrastructure projects and mentor juniors.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
• Hardware remote administration on blade chassis and servers.
• DNS, DHCP, AD, SCCM familiarity.
• Troubleshooting 3rd party applications; NetApp hardware experience.

Responsibilities

• Implement, deploy, and maintain infrastructure solutions with Dell servers, NetApp, Pure storage, VMware, and cloud platforms.
• Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure services across compute, storage, networking, and security.
• Lead complex infrastructure projects including cloud migrations and capacity planning.
• Manage NetApp and Pure storage systems for high availability and performance.
• Administer and optimize VMware environments including ESXi, vCenter, and networking.
• Collaborate with network, security, and application teams for integrated infra.
• Develop infrastructure automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, and Terraform.
• Monitor system health, performance, and security across on‑prem and cloud.
• Provide Tier 3 support and mentorship to junior engineers in the global team.
• Document infrastructure architecture and operational procedures.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions utilizing Dell servers, NetApp and Pure storage, VMware virtualization, and cloud platforms (AWS and Azure)
• Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure services, including compute, storage, networking, and security configurations
• Lead complex infrastructure projects, including cloud migrations, hybrid integrations, upgrades, and capacity planning
• Manage and optimize NetApp and Pure storage systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity
• Administer and enhance VMware environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, virtual networking, and lifecycle management
• Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of all infrastructure components
• Develop and maintain infrastructure automation scripts and tools using PowerShell, Python, Bash, and cloud-native automation tools
• Proactively monitor system health, performance, and security across on-premises and cloud environments
• Provide expert Tier 3 support and technical mentorship to junior engineers and technicians within the global team
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure architecture, configurations, and operational procedures
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to ensure business continuity

• 7+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering and systems administration
• Expert-level knowledge of Dell server hardware and management tools (e.g., iDRAC, OpenManage)

• Advanced proficiency in VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and related virtualization technologies
• Advanced proficiency in AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure, including services for compute, storage, networking, and security
• Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for infrastructure automation and monitoring
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, SAN environments, and Windows/Linux server administration
• Solid understanding of cloud networking fundamentals, compute, storage, and identity management
• Proven ability to lead complex infrastructure projects and provide mentorship to junior staff
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Expert Knowledge of hardware remote administration on blade chassis, stand‑alone servers
• Experience in DNS, DHCP, AD services, SCCM and other windows troubleshooting
• Strong proficiency in troubleshooting 3rd party and custom applications
• Experience with NetApp based hardware, AFF chassis and other components
• Proficiency with network, windows and storage protocols but not limited to TCPIP, SMB, NFS and CIFS Shares
• Expert level Linux administration skills related to file systems, file mount volumes, advanced file system and OS troubleshooting
• Advanced Linux administration skills to mount volumes, basic file system and OS troubleshooting
• Advanced Vmware proficiency at vCenter and ESX troubleshooting
• Proficiency in PowerCLI and PowerShell scripting. Terraform coding will be added advantage
• Experience in Azure and AWS cloud fundamentals in compute, networking and storage
• Service now ticketing, problem and incident management is required
• Flexibility to work shift schedules and on-call duties as required
