Job summary

Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) is seeking an experienced APG Engineering Lead to oversee design, installation, testing and handover of Automatic Platform Gate systems within railway projects in Malaysia. You will coordinate interfaces with signaling, platform, power, telecoms and civil teams, and provide technical guidance to engineers and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Control & Instrumentation or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably with railway, metro, LRT or mass rapid transit projects.
  • Proven experience in APG/PSD systems and system integration.
  • Strong understanding of railway systems interfaces and station systems.
  • Experience in managing contractors, system suppliers and technical stakeholders.

  • Lead testing, commissioning, integration testing and handover activities; resolve defects before handover.
  • Monitor progress against schedules and quality documentation; support timely handover.

Job description

Lead and manage APG engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from design development through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.

Review and coordinate APG system designs, technical specifications, drawings, calculations, interface requirements, and engineering submissions.

Ensure APG systems comply with project specifications, applicable railway standards, safety requirements, and relevant codes and regulations.

Provide technical guidance and support to engineers, contractors, suppliers, and project teams on APG-related matters.

Identify and resolve technical issues, design discrepancies, and engineering challenges related to APG systems.

2. Design & Interface Coordination

Coordinate APG interfaces with other railway systems, including Signalling & Train Control system, platform systems, power supply, telecommunications, SCADA, civil/architectural works, and rolling stock.

Review interface requirements and ensure proper integration of APG systems with station infrastructure and other railway systems.

Coordinate with consultants, system suppliers, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of technical and interface issues.

Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, workshops, and interface coordination meetings.

Oversee and provide technical support for APG installation activities at stations and other project locations.

Ensure installation works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, specifications, and quality requirements.

Lead and coordinate APG testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, integration testing, and trial operations.

Review and monitor testing and commissioning results and ensure all defects and outstanding issues are resolved prior to handover.

Support system integration testing and reliability demonstration activities.

4. Project Delivery & Quality

Monitor APG engineering and construction progress against project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

Review technical submissions, inspection and test plans, method statements, material approvals, and quality documentation.

Ensure APG works comply with approved quality plans, safety requirements, and project procedures. Monitor and manage technical risks, non-conformances, defects, and corrective actions related to APG systems.

Support the project team in achieving timely completion and successful handover of APG works.

5. Documentation & Handover

Ensure all APG technical documentation, as-built drawings, test records, operation and maintenance manuals, certificates, and handover documents are properly prepared and submitted.

Support preparation and review of operation and maintenance documentation and training materials.

Coordinate the closure of punch-list items, defects, and outstanding technical issues prior to final handover.

Provide technical support during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), where required.

6. Stakeholder & Team Management

Liaise with clients, consultants, operators, system suppliers, subcontractors, and internal project teams on APG-related matters.

Attend technical and progress meetings and provide updates on APG engineering and project delivery status.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and other project team members.

Support procurement, tendering, technical evaluation, and commercial teams on APG-related requirements when required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Control & Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline.

Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably with experience in railway, metro, LRT, or other mass rapid transit projects.

Proven experience in Automatic Platform Gate (APG), Platform Screen Door (PSD), Platform Safety System, or similar railway platform systems.

Experience in APG system design, installation, testing, commissioning, and system integration.

Strong understanding of railway systems interfaces and station systems.

Experience in managing contractors, system suppliers, consultants, and technical stakeholders.

Familiarity with railway safety, quality, testing and commissioning requirements.

Strong problem-solving, coordination, communication, and project management skills.
