Job summary

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation discipline required.

• Energy Commission PW2/PW4 or Chargeman certification is a strong plus.

To support plant reliability, asset uptime, and continuous automation efficiency, their engineering division is seeking a hands‑on, highly skilled Senior Electrical Technician.

Mission

Reporting directly to the Automation Engineer, the Senior Electrical Technician holds hands‑on technical accountability for troubleshooting, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing plant machinery, automated process equipment, and utility networks across electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.

This role serves as a crucial frontline technical problem solver—executing planned preventive maintenance routines, diagnosing PLC and sensor faults, calibrating precision instruments, responding swiftly to plant emergency breakdowns, and providing mentorship to junior technicians to ensure peak plant availability.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

1. Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation Maintenance

• Routine Inspections & PM: Conduct structured routine inspections, preventive maintenance (PM), and corrective overhauls on electrical and instrumentation equipment—including AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, control panels, sensors, transmitters, wiring circuits, and utility networks.

• Control Systems & PLC Support: Support the Automation Engineer in monitoring and maintaining Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), I/O modules, safety circuits, and digital control loops across production lines.

• Calibration & Accuracy: Calibrate temperature, pressure, flow, and level instruments/transmitters in accordance with established engineering SOPs and quality compliance benchmarks.

2. Fault Diagnosis, Root-Cause Rectification & Emergency Response

• Active Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and rectify complex electrical trip‑outs, instrumentation drift, component failures, and automation interruptions using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized diagnostic tools.

• Breakdown Minimization: Lead prompt on‑floor responses to unexpected equipment breakdowns, power outages, and production line halts to minimize unplanned plant downtime.

• Modification Logging: Meticulously document all maintenance activities, inspection logs, parts replacements, and electrical circuit modifications within plant maintenance records and SAP ERP systems.

3. Team Guidance & Continuous Operational Safety

• Technician Mentorship: Guide, coach, and support junior technicians and apprentice electricians on safe work practices, electrical schematics reading, and systematic troubleshooting techniques.

• Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Strictly enforce plant safety protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Permit to Work (PTW) guidelines, and Malaysian statutory electrical safety standards at all times.

Requirements

Education & Technical Credentials

• Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.

• Tenure: Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on industrial electrical and instrumentation maintenance experience within a manufacturing or continuous processing plant environment.

• Certifications (Added Advantage): Possession of an Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) Wireman (PW2/PW4) or Chargeman (A0/A1/A4) certificate, or formal external certifications in PLC programming, instrumentation calibration, or industrial automation, is a strong added advantage.

Technical Competencies & Systems

• Troubleshooting Mastery: Proven ability to read and interpret electrical wiring schematics, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), P&IDs, and control loop drawings.

• Hardware Acumen: Practical exposure to industrial motors, starters, contactors, relays, solenoid valves, pressure/temperature transmitters, and PLC hardware architecture.

• Software & Systems: Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office); hands‑on familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or SAP PM is an added advantage.

Personal & Operational Profile

• Language Skills: Professional working proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English.

• Work Agility: Independent problem‑solver with strong analytical acumen, willing to support emergency breakdowns, line changeovers, or scheduled maintenance turnarounds.

• Location: Based in or relocatable to Pasir Gudang / Johor Bahru, with own transport for daily commuting.
