PERSOL in Malaysia seeks an experienced Database Administrator to manage day-to-day admin, monitoring and support of enterprise database platforms across SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
In a mission-critical production environment, you will ensure high availability, reliability, performance and security across production and non-production environments. The role requires 8-10+ years of hands-on experience and strong cross-team collaboration.
The role will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, support, maintenance and operational stability of enterprise database platforms across multiple technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and other relational database systems. Working within a mission-critical production environment, you will ensure high levels of database availability, reliability, performance and security across production and non-production environments. The role involves hands-on BAU operations, troubleshooting, database maintenance, backup and recovery, patching, performance monitoring, incident resolution and support for application releases and infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities
Administer, maintain and support enterprise database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and other supported relational databases.
Perform day-to-day database administration across Production, Disaster Recovery (DR), UAT, SIT and Development environments.
Monitor database health, availability, performance and capacity to ensure systems remain stable and within defined service levels.
Manage database instance configuration, startup/shutdown activities and routine operational tasks.
Perform database creation, provisioning, cloning, refresh and decommissioning activities.
Execute routine database housekeeping and preventive maintenance.
Execute and monitor database backup and recovery operations across supported platforms.
Perform database patching, maintenance and minor version upgrades.
Conduct basic to intermediate database performance tuning, including query optimisation, index maintenance, statistics updates, database reorganisation, and memory/storage optimisation.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, problems and service requests in a timely manner.
About you
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline.
8-10+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with strong exposure to enterprise database environments.
Strong hands-on experience with multiple database platforms, particularly SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Oracle RAC and Data Guard, and SQL Server Always On.
Strong experience in database upgrades, migrations, backup/recovery and high availability.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex database issues.
Experience supporting multi-database environments and working across different database technologies.
Good understanding of database performance monitoring and optimisation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure, application and business teams.
