Job summary

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in IT, CS or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Foundational knowledge of major DBMS: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of database architecture and relational databases.
• Knowledge of SQL queries and basic DBA commands.
• Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts.
• Strong problem‑solving and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop DBA skills.
• Ability to follow procedures in a structured environment.
• Preferred: cloud database platforms, scripting (PowerShell/Python), and monitoring tools.

We are seeking a DBA Junior to join our dynamic Information & Communication Technology team This role is based in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. As a DBA Junior, you will support our database infrastructure and operations, working under the guidance of senior database administrators to ensure optimal system performance, security, and reliability. This position offers a valuable opportunity to develop your database administration expertise in a professional environment whilst contributing to the stability and efficiency of our critical systems.

What you'll be doing

Assisting with the installation, configuration and maintenance of database management systems

Monitoring database performance and alerting senior team members to any anomalies or potential issues

Supporting the backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity

Performing routine database maintenance tasks including updates, patches and optimisation

Assisting with user account management and access control within database environments

Documenting database configurations, procedures and changes for compliance and knowledge sharing purposes

Troubleshooting and resolving database connectivity and performance issues under senior supervision

Supporting the implementation of security protocols and best practices across database systems

Participating in on-call support rotation as required

What we’re looking for

Formal qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Foundational knowledge of database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL

Understanding of database architecture, design principles and relational databases

Knowledge of SQL query writing and basic database administration commands

Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts and procedures

Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team

Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise in database administration
