Role Overview
The Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing and executing Exentec's business development strategy in Malaysia, with a particular emphasis on securing new projects, developing key customer relationships, and expanding Exentec's presence within the semiconductor and data center sectors.
This is a commercially driven role requiring an individual who understands how major capital projects are developed and awarded, and who can navigate relationships across end users, developers, consultants, EPC/EPCM contractors, main contractors, technology providers, and specialist subcontractors.
The ideal candidate will bring an established network within Malaysia's semiconductor and/or data center ecosystem and be capable of converting market opportunities into qualified projects, proposals, and ultimately awarded contracts.
Key Responsibilites
Business Development & Project Acquisition
- Develop and execute a structured business development strategy for Malaysia, aligned with Exentec's growth objectives.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue major opportunities within the semiconductor, data center, advanced manufacturing, and other mission-critical industries.
- Build and maintain a robust project pipeline covering early-stage opportunities through to contract award.
- Develop a strong understanding of upcoming greenfield, brownfield, expansion, retrofit, and facility upgrade projects.
- Lead the end-to-end business development process, from initial opportunity identification through qualification, engagement, proposal, negotiation, and contract award.
- Develop capture strategies for strategically important projects and key accounts.
- Work closely with internal technical, commercial, engineering, project management, and operations teams to develop competitive solutions and proposals.
- Develop commercial strategies that position Exentec effectively against competitors while protecting project margins.
- Monitor market trends, customer investment plans, construction activity, and industry developments to identify emerging opportunities.
Key Account & Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior decision-makers within target customers and project organizations.
- Develop relationships with semiconductor manufacturers, data center operators, hyperscalers, developers, EPC/EPCM firms, consultants, main contractors, and specialist contractors.
- Build trusted relationships with C-suite, directors, project directors, procurement leaders, engineering leaders, construction managers, and facilities teams.
- Develop account plans for strategic customers and identify opportunities for cross‑selling and long‑term service agreements.
- Position Exentec early in the project lifecycle to influence specifications, scopes of work, and procurement strategies.
- Represent Exentec at industry events, conferences, customer meetings, and relevant business forums.
Market Intelligence
- Maintain current knowledge of Malaysia's semiconductor and data center investment landscape.
- Track major capital expenditure projects, facility expansions, new developments, and investment announcements.
- Identify key project stakeholders, decision‑makers, consultants, EPCs, and procurement routes.
- Monitor competitor activity, market pricing, capabilities and positioning.
- Provide regular market intelligence and pipeline reporting to senior management.
- Develop and maintain a forward‑looking 12–24 month project opportunity pipeline.
Tender & Commercial Support
- Lead the commercial/business development aspects of major tenders and strategic proposals.
- Coordinate with technical teams to ensure proposals align with customer requirements and project specifications.
- Participate in tender clarification meetings, commercial negotiations, presentations, and contract discussions.
- Develop and negotiate commercial terms in conjunction with management and the relevant internal functions.
- Ensure accurate CRM/pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting.
- Support contract handover from business development to project execution teams.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline preferred.
- Relevant technical or commercial qualifications will also be considered.
- 8–12+ years of relevant business development, sales, or commercial experience, preferably in engineering, construction, facilities, technical services, or project-based environments.
- Demonstrable experience in securing projects within the semiconductor and/or data center industries.
- A strong understanding of the Malaysian construction and industrial project ecosystem.
- An established network of contacts among end users, developers, consultants, EPC/EPCM contractors, main contractors, and procurement organizations.
- Proven experience managing complex, high‑value B2B sales cycles with multiple stakeholders.
