Job summary

Futuristic Store Fixtures Sdn Bhd is seeking a safety-oriented intern to support occupational safety and health activities at our Kapar facilities. You will inspect premises for hazards, document findings, and take corrective actions to ensure a safe work environment.

You will assist the safety and health committee, organize monthly meetings and toolbox talks, and participate in accident investigations, safety inductions, and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, or related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word).
• Good communication, observation, and documentation skills.
• Responsible, proactive, and willing to learn.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Inspect company premises daily and identify safety hazards, recording them and taking corrective action.
• Serve as secretary to the safety and health committee and perform functions per regulations.
• Arrange and conduct monthly safety meetings, workshops, and toolbox talks with ISO-compliant documentation.
• Lead accident investigations for accidents, near-misses, dangerous occurrences, or occupational illnesses.
• Collect and analyse accident statistics and trends for continual improvement.
• Conduct regular workplace and hostel inspections to identify hazards and preventive measures.
• Ensure legal compliance and submit job hazard analyses to General Manager for major work phases.
• Maintain safety signage, lights, and barriers and act to eliminate unsafe conditions.
• Create awareness and conduct safety inductions for new personnel and visitors, including task-specific trainings.
• Liaise with local government authorities and agencies (DOSH, NIOSH, DOE, BOMBA).
• Plan OSH audits and act as focal point for external audits by clients or authorities.
• Develop emergency plans to prepare personnel for emergencies and minimize impacts.
• Assist ISO coordinator with initiating and maintaining ISO documentation.
• Encourage a speak-up culture on safety, health, and environment; perform other duties as directed.

Job description

This role involves inspecting company premises daily to identify and record safety hazards, taking immediate corrective action, and ensuring timely resolution. You will serve as secretary to the safety and health committee, arrange and conduct monthly safety meetings, workshops, briefings and toolbox talks, and lead accident investigations for accidents, near-miss incidents, dangerous occurrences, occupational poisoning or occupational disease. You will collect and analyse accident statistics and trends for continual improvement, conduct regular workplace inspections and monthly hostel inspections to identify potential hazards, and recommend preventive measures.

Key responsibilities

Inspect company premises daily and record all visible safety hazards, identify violators and take immediate corrective action

Serve as secretary to the safety and health committee and perform all functions as specified in occupational safety and Health (safety and Health Committee) Regulation 1966

Arrange and conduct monthly safety and security committee meetings, workshops, briefings and toolbox talks with documentation in compliance with ISO requirements

Lead accident investigations for accidents, near-miss incidents, dangerous occurrences, occupational poisoning or occupational disease and assist in insurance and government reporting

Collect and analyse accident statistics and trends for continual improvement

Conduct regular workplace inspections and monthly hostel inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend preventive measures

Ensure legal compliance and submit job hazard analysis to General Manager for each major phase or element of work

Ensure all safety signage, lights and barriers are provided throughout the project site and take immediate corrective action to eliminate unsafe conditions

Create awareness and conduct employee safety inductions for all new personnel or visitors and ensure trainings are carried out for specific tasks, especially high-risk activities

Act on behalf of the Company to maintain liaison with local government authorities and agencies such as DOSH, NIOSH, DOE, BOMBA

Plan and organize OSH audits and reviews via the safety and health implementation plan and program, and act as focal point for external audits by clients or local authorities

Develop emergency plans to prepare persons in case of emergency and minimize impacts

Assist the ISO coordinator in initiating, organizing, establishing and maintaining ISO and related documentation

Assist in creating and maintaining an environment where employees are encouraged to speak up for security, safety, health and environmental issues

Carry out other duties and tasks as directed by Management in line with competencies and activities associated with the above processes

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, or a related field.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

Good communication, observation, and documentation skills.

Responsible, proactive, and willing to learn.

Willing to conduct workplace inspections and perform site-based tasks in a manufacturing environment.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.
