Job summary

Oriental Sunrise Engineering Sdn. Bhd. seeks a Safety & Health Officer to promote, monitor and enforce safety and health compliance at the workplace in Penang. You will advise the Safety & Health Manager, coordinate policy development, and implement information systems on safety and health.

You will monitor the working environment, investigate incidents, draft safe work instructions, and assist the SHE Committee. A Diploma or Engineering qualification and DOSH registration are required.

Qualifications

• Possess at least Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered Safety & Health Officer (Green Book) with DOSH.
• Excellent knowledge of local SHE legislation and Management System requirements.
• Good SHE technical knowledge and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Safety & Health Manager on measures to maintain safety & health at work.
• Coordinate policies related to safety & health and their implementation.
• Implement procedures for data collection, analysis and dissemination on safety & health.
• Monitor and inspect the working environment to identify hazards and exposure levels.
• Carry out incident investigations including near-miss and first-aid cases.
• Formulate safe work instructions for identified hazards or risks.
• Coordinate SHE auditing, prepare inspection reports and follow up actions.
• Assist with SHE Committee establishment and act as secretary as required.
• Conduct joint safety inspections with authorities, clients and management.
• Issue observations or Stop Work Orders for identified nonconformances based on risk.

Job description

Promote, monitor, enforce, advise and ensure continual safety & health implementation in compliance with legal, OSH Management System and organizational requirements.

Key responsibilities

Advise the Safety & Health Manager on the measures to be taken in the interest of safety & health of the persons employed in the place of work

Coordinate all activities relating to the development, distribution and implementation of the policies related to safety & health

Implement procedures for the collation, analysis and dissemination of information relating to safety & health

Ensure the monitoring, assessment and regular inspection of the working environment to identify the various hazards to which the workers may be exposed and to assess their level of exposure

Carry out incident investigations in the event of any incident for instance fatal injury, injury, dangerous occurrence, near miss, occupational poisoning or disease, medical treatment case and first aid case and that occurred in workplace

Formulate safe work instruction for those identified significant safety hazards or risks

Coordinate safety & health auditing on a routine basis, and prepare program of inspections, compilation of reports and follow-up on actions resulting from the inspections as properly implemented

Assist the employer on the SHE Committee establishment and the implementation of safety & health program at the workplace and become secretary to the SHE Committee as specified under sub regulation 6(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety & Health Committee) Regulation 1996

Conduct joint safety & health inspection with enforcing authorities, clients and management team

Issue observation, nonconformance report or Stop Work Order for any identified nonconformance at project site based on the seriousness of the risk

About you

Possess at least Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering or equivalent

Registered Safety & Health Officer (Valid Green Book Holder) with DOSH

Excellent knowledge of local SHE legislation requirements and SHE Management System requirements

Good SHE technical knowledge

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Minimum 5 years practical experience relevant to the works preferably in construction safety and health
