Job summary

Aluminium Company of Malaysia Berhad is seeking an R&D Engineer to develop functional coating materials for aluminium products and to evaluate new alloys and related technologies. • PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry.
• Strong knowledge and experience in polymer and chemical analysis.

• Experience in material testing, characterization, and product development.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work effectively with Production, Sales, customers, and external partners.
• Strong teamwork orientation and willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
• Willing to travel for customer visits and project requirements.

• Work closely with Production and Sales teams on new product development, product improvements, trials, and technical issues.
• Conduct and/or coordinate polymer and chemical analysis related to coating materials.
• Support the preparation of patents, technical documentation, and research findings arising from development projects.
• Act as a liaison with universities and research institutions for joint development and research projects.
• Communicate with customers on technical requirements, product development, testing, and product performance.

Job description

The R&D Engineer role involves developing new functional coating materials for aluminium products and applications, and developing and evaluating new aluminium alloys and related material technologies. You will conduct research, testing, material characterization, and technical analysis to support new product development, identify and evaluate new technologies and materials for potential application, and improve existing products by balancing cost, performance, quality, and manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

Develop new functional coating materials for aluminium products and applications

Develop and evaluate new aluminium alloys and related material technologies

Conduct research, testing, material characterization, and technical analysis to support new product development

Identify and evaluate new technologies, materials, and industry developments for potential application in product development

Improve existing products by balancing cost, performance, quality, and manufacturability

Work closely with Production and Sales teams on new product development, product improvements, trials, and technical issues

Conduct and/or coordinate polymer and chemical analysis related to coating materials

Support the preparation of patents, technical documentation, and research findings arising from development projects

Act as a liaison with universities and research institutions for joint development and research projects

About you

PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
