Job summary

Aluminium Company of Malaysia Bhd is seeking a Senior Environment, Health and Safety Coordinator to lead EHS compliance, audits, and occupational health initiatives at our Malaysian site.

You will manage regulatory reporting, conduct risk assessments, and drive safety improvements across casting, rolling, and fabrication operations. A SHO certification and 3–5 years of relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, OHS or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in EHS / environmental management.
• Proven experience handling DOE audits and inspections.
• SHO certification with DOSH preferred; NEBOSH IGC or equivalent considered.

Responsibilities

• Support compliance tracking with local EHS regulations, legal requirements, and industry standards.
• Assist in regulatory inspections, audits, and statutory reporting.
• Maintain up-to-date records of permits, licenses, and documentation.
• Coordinate documentation renewal for hazardous operations and environmental discharges.
• Monitor safety policies, procedures, and SOPs across operations (casting, rolling, fabrication, etc.).
• Conduct shop-floor risk assessments (HIRARC / EAI) and ensure mitigation controls are active.
• Administer and audit the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system daily.
• Assist in reducing Lost Time Injuries and achieving safety KPIs.
• Coordinate occupational health programs, including surveillance and testing.
• Deliver EHS inductions and develop safety awareness content.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis and track CAPA progress.

Job description

Senior Environment, Health and Safety Coordinator

• Support compliance tracking with local EHS regulations (e.g., DOSH, DOE), legal requirements, and industry standards.
• Assist in preparing for regulatory inspections, audits, and mandatory statutory reporting.
• Maintain up-to-date and organized records of permits, licenses, and statutory documentation.
• Coordinate documentation renewal for hazardous operations and environmental discharges.

Safety Management

• Monitor the implementation of safety policies, procedures, and SOPs across manufacturing operations (casting, rolling, fabrication, etc.).
• Conduct regular shop-floor risk assessments (HIRARC / EAI) and ensure mitigation controls are active.
• Administer and audit the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system daily.
• Assist in driving site-level initiatives to reduce Lost Time Injuries (LTI) and achieve safety KPIs.

Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene

• Coordinate occupational health programs, including monitoring industrial hygiene factors (noise, dust, fumes, heat exposure) typical in an aluminium process plant.
• Organize and schedule statutory medical surveillance, audiometric testing and health check-ups for eligible employees.
• Promote workplace ergonomics and wellness programs.
• Facilitate preliminary investigations for incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions using methodologies like 5-Why or Fishbone.
• Track the progress of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to ensure timely closure.
• Deliver EHS inductions for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Develop content for safety awareness campaigns, safety alerts, and daily toolbox talks.
• Actively engage with shop-floor workers to build a proactive hazard-reporting culture.

Audits & Continuous Improvement

• Conduct internal EHS site inspections and support external management system audits (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001).
• Log audit findings and follow up with respective department headers for closure.
• Maintain emergency response equipment and coordinate the scheduling of emergency mock drills (fire, chemical spill, etc.).

Contractor Safety Management

• Verify that on-site contractors comply with plant EHS requirements.
• Conduct contractor safety briefings and perform routine inspections on contractor work sites.

Requirements

• Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in EHS / Environmental management, preferably in metal, aluminium or heavy manufacturing
• Proven experience in handling DOE audits and inspections
• Certified Safety and Health Officer (SHO) registered with DOSH, or currently holding partial certifications (e.g., passed SHO papers, NEBOSH IGC) is highly preferred. CePSWAM or other DOE competent person certifications are a plus.
