Qualifications

• A professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline is required.

• Strong knowledge of electrical construction practices and costs.
• Experience with quantity surveying software and MS Office is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate cost estimates and budget proposals for electrical projects.

About the role

MODERNLITE ELECTRICAL SDN BHD is seeking a dedicated Quantity Surveyor (Electrical Based) to join our team in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in managing project costs, budgets, and financial planning for our electrical construction projects. As Quantity Surveyor (Electrical Based), you will be responsible for ensuring accurate cost estimation, tender preparation, and contract administration across our diverse portfolio of electrical projects. This position is integral to maintaining our reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget, whilst upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate cost estimates and budget proposals for electrical construction projects of varying scales and complexity
• Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs and material assessments from electrical project drawings and specifications
• Analyse tender documents and prepare competitive bids for prospective electrical projects
• Manage project budgets throughout the contract period, tracking expenditures and identifying cost variances
• Prepare and process variation orders, claims, and contract documentation with precision and attention to detail
• Liaise with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and clients to ensure clarity on costs and project scope
• Monitor labour costs, material prices, and resource allocation to optimise project profitability
• Conduct cost analysis and value engineering studies to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
• Maintain detailed project records and documentation in compliance with company standards and industry regulations
• Support tender submissions and pre-contract negotiations with technical and financial expertise

What we're looking for

• A professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Fresh Graduate is welcome to apply.
• Strong knowledge of electrical construction practices, materials, labour costs, and project methodologies
• Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Project)
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Sound understanding of contract administration, variation orders, and claims management
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation accurately
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
• Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst maintaining quality and deadlines
• Professional certification or membership with recognised quantity surveying bodies (such as RICS or equivalent Malaysian standards) is advantageous
• Knowledge of Malaysian construction regulations, building codes, and tender procedures is highly desirable
