Job summary

JFE Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a Quantity Surveyor responsible for managing costs and Bills of Quantities for Civil, Structure and Architecture projects.

You will prepare estimates, review contracts, and monitor procurement to keep projects within budget. The role requires strong reading of drawings, knowledge of contracts, and ability to negotiate with suppliers. The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of relevant experience, proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD, and excellent communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant working experience.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts, tendering procedures, and cost control.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Able to work independently and under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Willing to travel and be based at a construction site.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and Bill of Quantities for Civil, Structure and Architecture projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements.
  • Prepare and evaluate tenders, quotations, and contract documents.
  • Source and obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate prices and contractual terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and monitor procurement costs.
  • Monitor project costs and prepare costs reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Measure work completed and prepare progress claims, payment certificates, and final accounts.
  • Assess and evaluate variation orders, additional works, and extension of time.
  • Verify subcontractor claims and recommend payments.
  • Monitor project cashflow and cost control to ensure budgets are met.
  • Attend site meetings, progress meetings, and commercial discussions.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers on commercial matters.
  • Maintain records of contracts, correspondence, claims, and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, contractual obligations, and regulations.
  • Review subcontract agreements and service contracts.
  • Forecast cost variances and support contract administration.

1. Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all costs and Bills of Quantities (BQ) relating to construction projects from the initial calculations to the final accounts. The role ensures that projects are completed within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with contractual requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and Bill of Quantitites (BQ) for Civil, Structure and Architecture projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements.
  • Prepare and evaluate tenders, quotations, and contract documents.
  • Source and obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate prices and contractual terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and monitor procurement costs.
  • Monitor project costs and prepare costs reports throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Supporting contract administration in accordance with client and project requirements.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management.

2. Preferred Qualification, Experience and Skill.

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant working experience.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts, tendering procedures, and cost control.
  • Possess basic knowledge of site activities, practices and procedures in the construction field and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD). Experience with quantity surveying or project management software is an advantage.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and regulations.
  • Good communications skills, problem-solving skills, analytical, negotiation, and multitasking skills with keen attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively follow up on discrepancies or pending tasks to ensure timely resolution.
  • Required language(s): Bahasa Malaysia, English
  • Positive attitude, able to coordinate and work as a team.
  • Willing to travel (have own transport) and to be based at a construction site.
