Rubberflex is seeking a detail-oriented, commercially driven Purchasing Officer (Chemist) to join our central procurement team at our Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
Bridging chemical technicalities with commercial supply chain management, you will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing industrial chemicals, compounding raw materials, laboratory reagents, and plant processing inputs. You will liaise directly with international and regional suppliers—predominantly across Greater China and Asia—to negotiate pricing, review chemical specifications, track lead times, and ensure seamless delivery to our production operations.
Source, evaluate, and procure industrial chemicals and raw materials (latex, acids, vulcanizing agents, accelerators, antioxidants, stabilizers, and process additives) to meet manufacturing requirements.
Conduct commercial and technical evaluations of supplier quotations, ensuring raw materials comply strictly with company technical sheets, purity limits, and Certificate of Analysis (CoA) standards.
Liaise extensively with Mandarin-speaking chemical manufacturers, traders, and suppliers via verbal and written correspondence to negotiate pricing, minimum order quantities (MOQs), delivery terms (Incoterms), and credit terms.
Generate, process, and track Purchase Orders (POs) from requisition through to delivery, ensuring zero disruption to plant production schedules.
Monitor shipping documentation, import declarations, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS), and regulatory clearances (e.g., chemical import permits, scheduled waste regulations, or DOSH/environmental guidelines).
Coordinate directly with logistics providers, freight forwarders, and plant inventory controllers to track shipment statuses, port clearances, and warehouse arrivals.
Collaborate closely with factory R&D, Latex, Compounding, and Production teams to review raw material trials, technical spec deviations, or sample evaluations.
Act as the primary technical point of contact when investigating chemical non-conformances, off-spec deliveries, or purity discrepancies, managing supplier debit notes and replacement claims.
Continuously monitor global and domestic price trends for core industrial chemical feedstocks to identify cost-saving initiatives and alternative supply sources.
Maintain up-to-date procurement databases, contract files, supplier price comparisons, and vendor audit logs.
Assist in evaluating vendor reliability based on delivery lead times, price competitiveness, quality consistency, and customer service.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related scientific discipline.
Experience: Fresh graduates are strongly encouraged to apply; candidates with 1–2 years of experience in procurement, raw material purchasing, chemical sales, or laboratory work in an industrial manufacturing setting are welcome.
Language Proficiency:
Fluent spoken and written Mandarin is required to liaise effectively with Mandarin-speaking chemical suppliers, review Chinese technical documentation, and manage regional overseas orders.
Strong working proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia for internal and local corporate communications.
Technical & Commercial Competencies:
Fundamental understanding of basic chemistry, chemical terminology, purity grades, and technical datasheets (CoA, MSDS/SDS).
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and enterprise ERP/procurement systems (or willingness to learn).
Understanding of basic international trade terms (FOB, CIF, CFR) and logistics flow is an advantage.
Prime corporate office location in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) with direct public transport accessibility.
Comprehensive onboarding and technical mentoring on industrial procurement workflows and manufacturing raw materials.
Attractive career development path within a core industrial group.
