Job summary

Protenga Pte Ltd in Malaysia is looking for a Site Engineer to develop new Smart Insect Farm projects around Kluang and Central Johor, and to keep existing facilities operating smoothly. This is a hands-on, on-site role with desk work as needed.

You will supervise construction, manage installation and commissioning of equipment, maintain mechanical and electrical systems, and run trials with Production and R&D to turn results into practical improvements. Travel to sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics engineering.
• Hands-on site or maintenance experience preferred (1–3 years).
• Fresh graduates with strong hands-on experience are welcome.

Job description

Protenga is an agri-tech startup Making Insects Work For A Better Food System. As our Site Engineer, you will develop new Smart Insect Farm projects around Kluang and Central Johor and keep our existing facilities there operating smoothly and improving continuously. This is equally a hands-on, on-site role as it also is a desk job.

What you will do

• Construction supervision: Oversee contractors and site works for new builds and facility upgrades, making sure work is done on schedule, to specification and safely.
• Installation and commissioning: Manage modifications to existing equipment and the installation, testing, troubleshooting and commissioning of new machines, from delivery through to handover to Production.
• Site maintenance: Maintain and repair the farm’s mechanical and electrical systems, including basic troubleshooting and upkeep of IoT devices, sensors, PLCs and site IT.
• Process and equipment trials: Work with Production and R&D to set up, run and record trials of new processes and equipment, and turn the results into practical improvements.

What we are looking for

• A background in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline
• 1 to 3 years in a technical, site or maintenance role are preferred. Fresh graduates with strong hands-on experience (internships, technical teams, personal projects) are welcome
• Comfortable with tools and on the workshop floor: fabrication, assembly and repair
• Able to read technical drawings and electrical schematics, with basic PLC and sensor knowledge. 2D/3D CAD experience is a plus.
• Experience in food, feed or agricultural operations (feed milling, palm oil, poultry) is a plus
• A practical problem-solver with grit, attention to detail, analytical thinking, structured reasoning and a strong commitment to safety.
• Good written and spoken English and fluent Malay. Mandarin is a plus
• Own car and laptop. Travel to other sites may be required

Location

Your position would be based mainly at our Kluang site and around central & southern Johor. Travel or relocation to other project sites in the future may be possible.
