Job description

Plan, organise, control and continuously improve fabrication and workshop operations to deliver projects safely, on time, to required quality, and within approved cost and resource plans. Leads production, manpower deployment, equipment readiness, consumables control, incoming-material handling and store inventory — working closely with Engineering, Project Management, QA/QC and Procurement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Fabrication and Production Management

  • Plan, monitor and control fabrication work per drawings, specs, codes, procedures and HSE requirements; maintain daily/weekly/project production plans covering manpower, machine, material and consumable needs
  • Track progress against schedule, resolve bottlenecks/delays, and allocate/supervise manpower by priority, complexity and competency
  • Monitor productivity, workmanship quality, rework, attendance and performance; coach, train and take corrective action as needed
  • Ensure suitable fabrication methods, tooling and technology are used
  • Coordinate with Engineering, QA/QC, PM and Procurement to resolve technical, quality, material and operational issues; liaise with vendors, subcontractors, clients and authorities for inspections and testing
  • Maintain accurate production, progress and manpower records; lead valve testing; support site construction, installation and commissioning when required

2. Workshop Equipment and Maintenance Control

  • Ensure machinery, lifting equipment, tools and test equipment are safe, available and well-maintained
  • Establish preventive‑maintenance schedules, coordinate repairs, and maintain the equipment register, calibration and certification records
  • Monitor utilisation, downtime and maintenance cost; recommend repair, replacement or upgrade
  • Ensure correct, authorised equipment use and workshop housekeeping/HSE compliance
  • Plan and control availability of welding consumables, gases, abrasives, tools, fasteners, PPE and supplies
  • Set min/max stock levels, reorder points and controlled issue processes
  • Monitor usage, wastage and cost; investigate abnormal consumption
  • Ensure controlled consumables are stored, issued and traceable per specification
  • Raise/approve purchase requisitions within budget and delegated authority

4. Store and Incoming Materials Management

  • Supervise store operations for materials, consumables, tools and spares
  • Ensure incoming materials are received, checked (quantity, condition, spec, documentation) and recorded against POs/certificates before acceptance or release to production
  • Ensure proper tagging, storage, segregation and traceability per project/QA requirements
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and Procurement on rejected or non‑conforming materials
  • Maintain accurate inventory; conduct stock checks and cycle counts, and resolve discrepancies
  • Control material issuance by project/work order/cost centre; flag slow‑moving, excess, obsolete or damaged stock

5. Quality, HSE and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with quality plans, inspection/test requirements, specifications and standards
  • Promote a strong safety culture; ensure compliance with HSE rules, permits, risk assessments and PPE requirements
  • Participate in incident investigations, non‑conformance reviews and corrective‑action implementation
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, workflow, quality, material use, uptime, stock accuracy and cost
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions and training requirements
Authority

Subject to company policy, budgets and delegated limits, may:

  • Allocate manpower, equipment and production resources to project priorities
  • Stop unsafe or non‑conforming work
  • Approve/recommend purchase requisitions for materials, consumables and repairs
  • Recommend equipment repair, replacement, subcontracting or additional manpower
  • Initiate corrective actions for production, equipment, store or inventory issues
Education and Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • Relevant certifications in fabrication, welding, quality, HSE or production management are an advantage
Skills and Experience
  • At least 5 years in fabrication, mechanical, construction or workshop operations, including supervisory/management responsibility
  • Demonstrated production planning, manpower management and fabrication scheduling experience
  • Experience with workshop equipment, maintenance coordination, tools and consumables
  • Experience in store operations, receiving, inventory control, stock counts and traceability
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs and work instructions
  • Working knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, tooling, QC and workshop safety
  • Proficient in MS Office; inventory/production‑planning systems preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem‑solving and people‑management skills
  • Able to work to project deadlines while maintaining safety, quality and cost discipline

  • On‑time completion of fabrication work and milestones
  • Productivity, labour utilisation and rework reduction
  • Fabrication quality, inspection acceptance and non‑conformance performance
  • Equipment availability, preventive‑maintenance completion and downtime
  • Consumables availability, consumption control and wastage reduction
  • Inventory accuracy, stock‑count compliance and stock‑out prevention
  • Timeliness and accuracy of incoming‑material receiving, inspection and traceability
  • HSE performance, housekeeping and corrective‑action closure

  • Support project execution and site activities when required
