Job summary

Sophic Automation Sdn Bhd in Bayan Lepas, Penang, Malaysia, seeks a capable project engineer to be the main technical liaison between internal teams, stakeholders and engineering.

You will coordinate planning, scheduling and execution, analyze requirements and specifications, and determine execution and support plans while ensuring adequate resources and quality.

The role requires collaboration across cross-functional teams and willingness to travel to customer sites when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering disciplines.
• 2-5 years in product engineering, validation, testing, or related engineering.
• Understand product development, validation, testing, and defect management processes.
• Experience in validation, troubleshooting, and first-level debugging.

Job description

Serve as the key technical point of contact between internal teams, project stakeholders, and engineering teams for project-related activities.

Coordinate project planning, scheduling, execution, and necessary technical interactions throughout the project lifecycle.

Analyse and understand project requirements, technical specifications, and operational needs to determine appropriate execution and support plans.

Plan and manage engineering resources and team availability to ensure sufficient work coverage for planned and unplanned requirements.

Coordinate task assignments, hardware requirements, software requirements, and other resources required for project execution.

Conduct regular project review meetings with relevant stakeholders to review progress, identify potential gaps, and determine necessary corrective actions.

Conduct regular technical discussions with team members to address project requirements, technical issues, and execution challenges.

Provide technical guidance and first-level support to team members on engineering and validation-related issues.

Perform product and quality validation using designated engineering tools, test environments, and validation procedures.

Reproduce reported defects and perform first-level debugging and troubleshooting to identify potential root causes.

Record and maintain complete details of identified defects and technical issues in the designated Defect Management System.

Monitor reported defects and coordinate with relevant technical teams for further investigation and resolution.

Identify and elevate technical, operational, or execution issues that may impact project quality, schedule, or deliverables.

Compile, prepare, and present daily or weekly project status reports to relevant stakeholders when required.

Maintain proper documentation of project activities, technical findings, validation results, defects, and action items.

Ensure assigned activities are completed according to project requirements, quality expectations, and agreed timelines.

Perform other project or engineering-related duties as assigned by the immediate superior.

DETAILED JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.

Preferably 2-5 years of working experience in product engineering, validation, testing, technical support, or a related engineering environment.

Good understanding of product development, engineering validation, testing, and defect management processes.

Experience in performing product or system validation, troubleshooting, and first-level debugging.

Ability to understand technical requirements, test procedures, engineering specifications, and project documentation.

Familiarity with defect tracking or Defect Management Systems and proper documentation of technical issues.

Good knowledge of hardware and software environments with the ability to coordinate technical setup and requirements.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions.

Good project coordination, planning, scheduling, and task management skills.

Ability to coordinate multiple engineering activities and prioritize tasks according to project requirements.

Good leadership and team coordination skills with the ability to provide technical guidance to team members.

Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and stakeholders.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, for project tracking and reporting.

Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional and technical teams.

Willing to provide additional or overtime support when required based on project and operational needs.

Possess own transportation and be willing to travel or work at customer/project sites when required.
