Job summary

RZB Lighting Asia & Pacific Sdn Bhd, an international lighting brand with operations in Kuala Lumpur, is seeking a hands-on Product cum Quality Engineer to join the team on site in Malaysia. The role covers product development support, component and supplier management, supplier audits, quality improvement and final quality control.

You will review engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, liaise with suppliers and internal teams, and travel to supplier facilities as required to resolve

Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering preferred; Mechanical Engineering acceptable.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in product development, manufacturing, supplier management or quality engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks; able to prepare, modify and interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Support new product development, product improvement and engineering projects.
• Review and prepare engineering drawings, component specifications and technical documentation.
• Use AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop, modify and review drawings and product designs.
• Work with suppliers and internal teams on development and qualification of new components.
• Provide technical support for product modifications, cost optimisation and engineering improvements.
• Identify potential design, manufacturing and quality issues and propose practical solutions.
• Travel to supplier facilities and manufacturing sites to support development and quality efforts.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements in component quality.

About the Role

We are an International Lighting Brand with operations in Kuala Lumpur, looking for a hands-on Product cum Quality Engineer to join our team.

This is a versatile engineering role covering product development support, component and supplier management, supplier audits, technical problem-solving, quality improvement and final quality control.

The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, production, quality and internal teams to ensure our products meet the required standards for design, functionality, quality, reliability and cost.

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, practical and comfortable getting directly involved in engineering, manufacturing and quality issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Support new product development, product improvement and engineering projects.
• Review and prepare engineering drawings, component specifications and technical documentation.
• Use AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop, modify and review engineering drawings and product designs.
• Work closely with internal teams and suppliers on the development and qualification of new components.
• Provide technical support for product modifications, cost optimisation and engineering improvements.
• Identify potential design, manufacturing and quality issues and recommend practical solutions.
• Support product sourcing and component development for new and existing products.
• Liaise closely with local and overseas suppliers on the development and manufacture of plastic, aluminium and metal components.
• Review supplier drawings, samples, specifications and production processes.
• Follow up on tooling, sampling, trial production and component approval.
• Work with suppliers to resolve technical, dimensional, material and quality issues.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements in component quality and consistency.
• Travel to supplier facilities and manufacturing sites as required to support product development, quality improvement and technical problem-solving.

Supplier Audit & Quality Management

• Plan and conduct supplier audits to assess manufacturing processes, quality systems and compliance with company requirements.
• Evaluate supplier capability, production processes and quality controls.
• Identify non-conformities and work with suppliers to establish effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct follow-up audits or assessments to verify corrective actions have been effectively implemented.
• Maintain supplier audit records, findings and improvement reports.
• Support supplier qualification and evaluation activities for new and existing suppliers.

Quality Engineering & Improvement

• Establish and maintain appropriate product quality standards, specifications and inspection requirements.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for quality issues.
• Drive continuous quality improvement across products, components and manufacturing processes.
• Analyse quality data and identify recurring problems, trends and opportunities for improvement.Work closely with production, engineering, suppliers and other departments to resolve quality issues effectively.

Final Quality Control

• Take ownership of final quality control activities before products are released or shipped.
• Conduct and coordinate final inspection and quality verification of finished products.
• Review inspection results, identify non-conformities and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Prepare and maintain final quality control reports and quality documentation.
• Ensure products comply with approved specifications, engineering drawings, quality standards and customer requirements.

Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering preferred; candidates with a Mechanical Engineering background will also be considered.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience in product development, manufacturing, supplier management or quality engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, with practical experience preparing, modifying and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong ability to read, understand and review engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, specifications and component requirements.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
• Practical and hands-on approach to engineering and quality problem-solving.
• Experience in conducting supplier audits and driving supplier corrective actions will be an advantage.
• Good analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Able to communicate and negotiate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel, including visits to supplier and manufacturing facilities, when required.
• Able to work independently, take ownership and follow issues through to resolution.
