Job summary

YTL Cement Berhad seeks a Process Engineer to lead technical support for operations and projects, applying chemical/process expertise to optimise clinker and cement production using alternative materials and fuels.

The role focuses on improving efficiency, reliability, safety compliance, and consistent product quality through data-driven analysis and cross-functional collaboration. Travel within Malaysia may be required.

Qualifications

• BSc degree in Chemical/Process/Bioprocess/ Mineral/Material/Petroleum/Environmental Engineering.
• 1 year minimum experience in industrial/project management/consultancy (cement, lime, construction or heavy industries).
• Knowledge of DOSH, DOE, Nuclear Malaysia, ST and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9002, 14001, 50001).
• Familiarity with CFD and MATLAB applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI and relevant AI applications for data analytics.

Responsibilities

• Lead process engineering audits including heat and mass balance evaluations, debottlenecking and grinding process optimisation.
• Review technical specifications for new equipment sizing and modifications to meet capacity and efficiency goals.
• Maintain a centralised process engineering database with benchmarking data and historians.
• Lead plant trials, commissioning, process control optimisation and performance testing.
• Develop process engineering competencies through structured training and knowledge sharing.

Job description

In this role, you will lead and provide technical support to operations and project teams in achieving business objectives through the strategic application of process engineering expertisey. You will drive the optimisation of clinker and cement production by maximising the use of alternative raw materials, alternative fuels and supplementary cementitious materials. The role is responsible for improving operational efficiency, enhancing equipment reliability, and ensuring compliance with safety, health and environmental standards while maintaining consistent product quality.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive process engineering audits, including heat and mass balance evaluations, equipment debottlenecking, grinding process optimisation, and thermal efficiency assessments.

Review and validate technical specificationsfor new equipment sizing and modifications, ensuring alignment with increased capacity demands, improved efficiency, and evolving material or product requirements.

Maintain and update a centralised process engineering database, including benchmarking data and plant-wide process historians, to support data-driven analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Lead plant trials, equipment commissioning, process control optimisation, and performance testing, collaborating cross-functionally to ensure successful implementation and operational excellence.

Develop and strengthen process engineering competenciesthrough structured training programmes, on-the-job learning, simulators and knowledge sharing of documented best practices.

Support business development initiatives by leveraging process expertise to enable effective knowledge transfer and scalable implementation.

Efficiently execute assigned tasks and projects, contributing to the achievement of business goals and strategic initiatives as directed by management.

Job Requirements

Candidate must possess at least a BSc Degree in Chemical/Process/Bioprocess/ Mineral/Material/Petroleum/Environmental Engineering.

Minimum 1 year experience in industrial/project management/consultancy environment, preferably cement, lime, construction, or other heavy industries.

Good knowledge in various Malaysian departments’ regulations (DOSH, DOE, Nuclear Malaysia, ST, etc) and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9002,14001, 50001 etc).

Good knowledge of CFD and MATLAB applications.

Good mastery in Microsoft Excel, Power BI and relevant AI applications for data analytic works.

Possess a valid driving license, passport and willing to travel in Malaysia and overseas when required.
