Job summary

Frencken Mechatronics (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking a powder coating technician to prepare metal parts, apply powder coating, and oversee the coating process to meet thickness and finish specifications. You will set up equipment, monitor production, and ensure safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires basic knowledge of powder coating, experience with spray guns, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Technical or vocational qualification in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Metal Fabrication or related field is advantageous.
• Minimum 1 year of working experience in a manufacturing, powder coating, metal fabrication, or related production environment.
• Basic knowledge of powder coating processes, techniques, equipment, and materials.
• Able to understand coating requirements including colour, thickness, coverage, and finish.

Job description

Prepare metal parts and surfaces for powder coating through cleaning, degreasing, sanding, grinding, masking, and other required preparation processes.

Inspect parts and surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared before the coating process.

Operate powder coating spray guns and related equipment safely and efficiently.

Apply powder coating evenly according to specified thickness, colour, finish, and quality requirements.

Set up and adjust powder coating equipment, air pressure, powder flow, and other coating parameters according to job requirements.

Monitor the coating process to ensure consistent coverage and finish quality.

Perform visual inspection of coated parts and identify defects such as uneven coating, poor coverage, contamination, or surface imperfections.

Carry out basic cleaning and maintenance of powder coating equipment, tools, and work areas.

Follow established safety procedures, PPE requirements, and workplace housekeeping standards.

Complete production and quality records as required.

Support other production activities and duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.

Job Requirements

Education:

Technical or vocational qualification in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Metal Fabrication, or a related field will be an added advantage.

Working Experience:

Minimum 1 year of working experience in a manufacturing, powder coating, metal fabrication, or related production environment.

Experience in operating powder coating equipment or spray guns will be an added advantage.

Knowledge & Skills:

Basic knowledge of powder coating processes, techniques, equipment, and materials.

Skilled in operating powder coating spray guns and related equipment.

Familiar with surface preparation processes such as cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and degreasing.

Able to understand coating requirements including colour, thickness, coverage, and finish.

Good attention to detail and able to identify coating defects.

Able to maintain consistent coating quality while working within production deadlines.

Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures and proper PPE usage.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Physically fit and comfortable working in a manufacturing/production environment.
