Job summary

Private Advertiser in Malaysia seeks an Assembly & Decorative Production Manager to lead end-to-end assembly and decorative operations at an EMS site, ensuring on-time delivery, quality, cost competitiveness, and strict compliance with EHS and customer/industry standards (IPC-A-610, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, RoHS/REACH). This role owns production performance and drives continuous improvement and line stability.

• Familiarity with RoHS/REACH.
• Proficiency in MES/ERP and real-time performance tracking.
• Languages: English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Job description

Assembly & Decorative Production Manager

Lead and scale end-to-end assembly and decorative/spray painting operations for an EMS manufacturing site, ensuring on-time delivery, quality, cost competitiveness, and strict compliance with EHS and customer/industry standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and customer-specific requirements such as IATF 16949 for automotive programs. This role owns production performance across box build assembly and decorative finishes, while driving continuous improvement, line stability, and workforce capability.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day output for sub-assembly, and box-build lines, ensuring adherence to work instructions, ESD controls, and product-specific quality requirements.

Balance capacity vs. demand; set line loading, takt time, and staffing plans; ensure OEE, UPH, and OTD targets are met.

Ensure first-pass yield and process capability meet targets; implement quick containment and 8D for any escapes.

Oversee tooling/fixture readiness, preventive maintenance and changeover efficiency.

2) Decorative Production – Spray Painting & Finishes

Own end-to-end decorative processes.

Establish and control paint parameters, booth & oven conditions, and racking/handling to prevent defects.

Lead color management and gloss/texture control.

Qualify and manage paint/material suppliers, ensure MSDS/SDS availability, and control shelf life, mixing ratios, and traceability.

3) Quality & Compliance

Enforce IPC-A-610 workmanship, control plans, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, APQP/PPAP for relevant customers.

Ensure compliance to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and RoHS/REACH requirements.

Drive structured problem solving, and maintain robust CAPA effectiveness.

Oversee incoming/inline/final QC, painting visual standards, and NCR/MRB process with data-driven disposition and cost-of-poor-quality reduction.

4) EHS & Chemical Management

Ensure safe operation of spray booths, curing ovens, and flammable/solvent areas; maintain LEL monitoring, proper ventilation, and overspray capture.

Implement PPE programs, lockout-tagout, and waste management for paints/solvents in accordance with Malaysian regulations.

Manage chemical inventory, SDS availability, spill response, and compliant disposal with licensed contractors.

Lead risk assessments and emergency drills; track EHS KPIs.

Plan staffing, shifts, cross-training, and succession; build a culture of discipline, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Conduct performance reviews and implement reward/recognition aligned to KPIs.

Collaborate with Planning, Purchasing, and Business Development teams on delivery commitments and NPI/ECN readiness.

Own production cost drivers; deliver cost-per-unit and productivity improvements.

Apply Lean Concept; stabilize CTQ parameters; digitize with MES/Andon/SPC dashboards.

Host customer audits and builds; present readiness, process controls, and improvement roadmaps.

Qualify/coach strategic suppliers; resolve supplier quality issues with clear metrics and escalation.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Materials) or equivalent experience.

At least 8-10 years’ experience in high-mix EMS or related manufacturing, including 3–5 years’ experience managing assembly and spray painting/decorative operations.

Experience with spray painting/pad printing will be added advantage.

Familiarity with IPC-A-610, ESD controls, control plans/PFMEA/MSA/SPC, APQP/PPAP, RoHS/REACH.

Demonstrated results with Lean/Six Sigma, OEE, FPY, and cost reduction initiatives.

Proficient with any MES/ERP and data tools for real-time performance tracking.

Languages: Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
