Job summary

Columbia Asia Hospital - Iskandar Puteri is seeking an Pharmacy Assistant to support the Pharmacy Manager with day-to-day operations. You will assist in dispensing and distributing drugs, supervise technicians, and ensure accurate records and labeling.

You will coordinate with the clinical team to optimize patient medication care and ensure compliance with SOPs. The role requires a Diploma in Pharmacy or MOH certificate/licence, strong English and Malay language skills, and proficiency with

Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmacy or MOH certificate/licence is required.
• Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
• Knowledge of drug names and pharmacy math; computer literate.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the day-to-day supervision of pharmacy technicians.
• Screen incoming prescriptions.
• Enter medication orders into the dispensing program accurately.
• Fill prescriptions according to directions.
• Maintain dispensing records and ensure correct labeling and second-check on all medications.
• Adhere to policies for dispensing medicines, especially expensive and controlled drugs.
• Ensure correct medication and dosage are given to patients and confirm details.
• Provide clear instructions to outpatients and discharged patients.
• Compound preparations as required by nursing units.
• Dispatch drugs to nursing units with proper care and security.
• Liaise with clinical team regarding patient medications.
• Record requisitions accurately and manage storage/requisitions SOPs.
• Maintain minimum stock levels and check expiry dates.
• Prepare purchase orders and process invoices; update prices.
• Prepare reports on medication utilisation, billing and inventory.

Job description

Assist the Pharmacy Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the Pharmacy Department.

Assist in the dispensing and distribution of drugs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Assist in the day-to-day supervision of pharmacy technicians.
• 2. Screen incoming prescription.
• 3. Ensure the medication orders are entered into dispensing program accurately and software utilized correctly.
• 4. Fill up the prescription according to the direction given.
• 5. Maintain accurate dispensing records and ensure that the medication is labelled with the correct drug name, strength, quantity, directions for use, patient's name and include any additional information. Provide a second-check on all medication issued.
• 6. Adhere to practice policies and procedures for dispensing medicines, in particular those relating to expensive and controlled drugs.
• 7. Ensure that the correct medication and prescription is given to the patient, confirming the details shown on the prescription form and the label and confirming the dosage instructions where appropriate.
• 8. Provide clear, understandable instructions to outpatients and discharged patients in a language known to patients.
• 9. Compound preparations as required by nursing units.
• 10. Dispatch drugs to nursing units with proper care and security during transit.
• 11. Liaise with members of the clinical team regarding medication for individual patients.
• 12. Record requisitions accurately.
• 13. Comply with standard operating procedures for storage, recording and requisitions of drugs.
• 14. Maintain minimum stock levels of medicines, checking expiry dates and storage conditions.
• 15. Prepare purchase orders for approval. Process invoices and maintain price updates.
• 16. Prepare reports of medication utilization, billing and inventory levels as required.
• 17. Maintain general cleanliness. Maintain dispensary equipment, ensuring it is clean, accurate and in a good state of repair.
• 18. Ensure the safe storage of returned and out-of-date medications
• 19. Provide orientation and training of new Pharmacy staff.
• 20. Communicate effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their medication.
• 21. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Education and Requirements:

Diploma in Pharmacy or certificate/ license issued by the Ministry of Health.

Have good command in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken)

Require knowledge of drug names and pharmacy math. Computer literate.
