Job summary

Columbia Asia Hospital – Taiping seeks an experienced OR nurse to deliver high standards of peri-operative care for surgical patients. You will prep the operating room, check equipment, assemble consumables and assist during anesthesia, with duties extending to documentation and post-operative reporting.

Responsibilities include circulating and scrubbing for all disciplines, coordinating with nursing units, and contributing to on-call rosters for emergencies.

Qualifications

• RN with at least 2 years experience in nursing.
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing required; Post-basic in peri-operative nursing preferred.
• Valid Annual Practising Certificate in Malaysia.

Job description

• 1. Responsible for carrying out high standard of nursing care and treatment for patients undergoing surgeries.


• 2. Receive and check patient pre-operatively according to the checklist.


• 3. Prepare OR for surgical procedures.


• 4. Ensure all equipment are in working condition.


• 5. Assemble consumables and OR sets needed for daily procedures.


• 6. Circulate and scrub for surgical procedure of all disciplines.


• 7. Communicate with other nursing units on equipment needed for patient post-operatively.


• 8. Assist in the management of OR.


• 9. Maintain concise and complete documentation of operative records which is inclusive of swab and instrument count and anesthetic record.


• 10. Monitor stock for consumables and drugs according to par level.


• 11. Responsible for collection of surgical specimens and ensure correct labeling.


• 12. Daily check of controlled drugs, crash cart and medical gases.


• 13. Ensure all items and consumables used are recorded and charged.


• 14. Ensure patient safety by taking preventive measures against accidents/incidents.


• 15. Assist Anesthetist during administration of anesthesia.


• 16. Participate in the \"on-call\" roster for emergencies.


• 17. Check doctor's orders after surgery to ensure post operative treatment care is recorded.
  
• 18. Update OR register at each case.


• 19. Observe, take, record and report abnormal patient's condition/vital signs to the Surgeon/Anesthetist.


• 20. Assist in the orientation of new staff.


• 21. Participate in the training and development of nurses in OR.


• 22. Perform any other duties as assigned or directed.

Education and Requirements:

• RN with at least 2 years experience.


• Diploma / Degree in Nursing required.


• Post-basic in Peri-operative nursing preferred.


• Valid annual practicing certificate.


• Able to write and speak in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
