Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform novelty searches and other patent-related analyses.
• Draft and file patent documents for clients' inventions.
• Perform PCT national-phase filings / foreign filings by liaising with foreign agents.
• Handle patent queries and cost estimates.
• Prepare responses to examination reports from IP Offices locally and abroad.
• Assist with IP management systems and document preparation for patents and designs.
• Proofread and prepare IP-related content for marketing and educational materials.

Role Description

The Patent Executive is a full-time, on-site role based in Puchong. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and filing patent-related documents and forms in accordance with Malaysian and international IP requirements. The Patent Executive will liaise with clients to gather technical and legal information, provide guidance on patent procedures, and coordinate with external agents and legal counterparts. Responsibilities include monitoring deadlines, updating internal records, maintaining accurate case files, and supporting trademark, industrial design, and copyright matters when needed. The role also requires clear communication, careful attention to detail, and collaboration with team members to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• I. Performing novelty searches for clients’ inventions and other types of relevant searches/analyses, e.g. freedom-to-operate search, infringement analysis, landscape search, equivalent patent search and legal status research
• II. Drafting & filing patent documents for clients’ inventions
• IV. Performing PCT national-phase filings / foreign filings by liaising with foreign agents
• V. Handling patent queries and cost estimates
• VI. Reporting and responding to the examination reports issued by IP Offices locally and abroad
• VII. Assisting in document/forms preparations, tasks & IP management systems revolving around patents & industrial designs
• VIII. Proof-reading, reviewing, and/or preparing IP-related content for the company’s promotional and educational materials

Please note that this patent executive will also be assisting and be trained and supervised by senior IP agent/executive/lawyer(s) in his/her job duties.

Qualifications

Must-have

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical, Biological Sciences, Organic Chemistry, or any equivalent;or

Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Software Engineering, or any equivalent

• At least 2 years of relevant experience in the field of IP
• Good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia
• Demonstrates good time management, proactive attitude, team spirit and eagerness to learn; and
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Added Advantage

• Master’s degree or above in the required field
• Fluency in Chinese language (spoken and written)
• Proficiency in any figure drawing/editing software
• Proficiency in online document processing/translation tool
