Job summary

ZW Packaging Sdn Bhd is seeking an Operation Manager / Production Manager to lead production planning and daily operations across paper packaging and wood manufacturing. You will manage manpower, resources, and safety with a focus on quality and cost efficiency, while driving continuous improvement and ISO compliance.

You will oversee KPIs, coordinate with multiple departments, and lead a team of supervisors and operators to meet production targets and customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, Operations Management, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant working experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3–5 years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • Experience in paper packaging, carton manufacturing, packaging materials, wood processing, or related industries is an advantage.

Job description

The Operation Manager / Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the Company's overall production and operational activities to ensure smooth, efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations.

The position will be responsible for production planning, manpower and resource management, productivity, quality, cost control, inventory management, equipment utilisation, and continuous improvement.

Experience in manufacturing operations involving paper packaging, carton/packaging products, wood processing, wooden crates, pallets, or related manufacturing industries will be an added advantage. The successful candidate should be capable of managing production processes while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and Company requirements.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Production & Operations Management

Oversee and manage daily production and operational activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Plan, organise, and coordinate production schedules and resource requirements to achieve production targets and customer delivery requirements.

Monitor daily production output and ensure production activities are carried out according to approved schedules, work instructions, specifications, and quality requirements.

Ensure effective utilisation of manpower, machinery, materials, and production resources.

Identify and resolve operational issues that may affect production output, quality, efficiency, or delivery timelines.

Coordinate production priorities with relevant departments to meet business and customer requirements.

3.2 Paper Packaging & Wood Manufacturing Operations

Manage and monitor production activities involving paper packaging, carton or packaging materials, where applicable.

Oversee manufacturing processes involving wood processing, wooden crates, pallets, timber materials, or customised wooden packaging products, where applicable.

Ensure production processes comply with approved product specifications, drawings, work orders, and customer requirements.

Monitor material usage and minimise wastage of paper, packaging materials, timber, and other production materials.

Improve production workflow, machine utilisation, material handling, and production processes to increase productivity and reduce operational costs.

Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure raw materials and production components are available according to the production schedule.

Ensure proper control of work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods throughout the production process.

3.3 Production Performance & KPI Management

Establish, monitor, and review production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Production output;
  • Productivity;
  • Material wastage;
  • Rework and rejection;
  • Production efficiency; and

Analyse production data and implement appropriate corrective actions to address performance gaps.

Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports for Management review.

Recommend strategies to improve production performance and achieve departmental targets.

3.4 Quality Management

Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams to ensure products meet Company and customer quality requirements.

Ensure production activities are carried out according to approved specifications, work instructions, drawings, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Investigate quality issues, production defects, customer complaints, and non-conformities.

Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimise recurring quality issues.

Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rejection, rework, and material wastage.

Ensure compliance with all applicable Company safety, health, environmental, and operational requirements.

Enforce the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) within the production and operational areas.

Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and safe working practices.

Identify potential workplace hazards and work with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.

Promote a positive safety culture and maintain good housekeeping and 5S/6S practices.

Ensure production operations comply with applicable ISO standards and Company policies.

3.6 Manpower Management & Development

Manage, supervise, and lead production supervisors, leaders, operators, and other operational employees.

Plan manpower allocation according to production requirements and priorities.

Monitor employee attendance, discipline, productivity, and overall work performance.

Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide coaching and improvement plans where necessary.

Identify training needs and ensure employees receive the necessary training to perform their duties effectively and safely.

Develop capable supervisors and team leaders to support operational continuity and succession planning.

Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement within the production team.

3.7 Inventory & Material Control

Monitor and control inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.

Coordinate with Purchasing, Warehouse, Planning, and other relevant departments to ensure sufficient material availability.

Minimise excess inventory, material shortages, damage, and wastage.

Monitor material consumption and investigate significant variances.

Ensure proper storage, handling, identification, and traceability of production materials and finished products.

3.8 Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure machinery and equipment are properly maintained.

Monitor equipment performance and production downtime.

Support preventive maintenance planning to minimise unexpected equipment breakdowns.

Identify machinery, equipment, or facility improvement requirements to improve productivity and operational efficiency.

Participate in planning for new machinery, production equipment, or process improvements where required.

Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

Develop initiatives to reduce production costs, material wastage, downtime, rejection, and rework.

Apply continuous improvement methodologies and best manufacturing practices where appropriate.

Review production processes and recommend improvements to workflow, manpower utilisation, machine efficiency, and material usage.

Support Management in achieving operational and cost-saving objectives.

3.10 Cross-Department Coordination

Work closely with the following departments to ensure effective business operations:

  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control;
  • Maintenance;
  • Planning;
  • Warehouse;
  • Purchasing;
  • Customer Service;
  • Human Resource; and

Participate in operational meetings and provide updates on production performance, challenges, and improvement plans.

Escalate significant operational risks, production issues, or resource requirements to Management in a timely manner.

4. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, Operations Management, Production Management, or other related fields.

Minimum 5-8 years of relevant working experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

At least 3-5 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role managing production or operations teams.

Experience in paper packaging, carton manufacturing, packaging materials, wood processing, wooden crate manufacturing, pallet manufacturing, timber products, or related industries will be a strong advantage.

Strong knowledge of production planning, manpower management, manufacturing processes, and operational control.

Experience in monitoring and improving production KPIs, productivity, quality, efficiency, and cost performance.

Good understanding of inventory, WIP, raw material, and finished goods control.

Knowledge of ISO management systems, quality standards, safety requirements, 5S/6S, and continuous improvement practices will be an added advantage.

Strong leadership and people-management skills.

Able to analyse production problems and implement practical solutions.

Good communication, coordination, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

Able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Language Requirement

Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Mandarin-speaking ability is an added advantage, particularly for effective communication and coordination with Management, suppliers, customers, and relevant stakeholders.
