Job summary

GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd, based in Banting, Selangor, is seeking a Mechanical Manager to lead its engineering team. The role oversees mechanical operations, maintenance strategies, and reliability of equipment to support paperboard and packaging production.

You will manage a team, drive continuous improvement, ensure safety standards, and coordinate with production to minimize downtime. The position is full-time and requires strong leadership and maintenance expertise.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• 8–10 years in mechanical engineering or maintenance, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, maintenance practices in manufacturing.
• Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance.
• Budget management and cost control experience.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Strong communication with cross-functional teams and senior management.
• Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA or local requirements).

About the role

GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Manager to join our engineering team at our facility in Banting, Selangor. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in overseeing the mechanical operations and infrastructure of our manufacturing facility. As Mechanical Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, maintenance, and reliability of all mechanical systems and equipment that support our paperboard and packaging production operations. This leadership role is integral to maintaining operational excellence, ensuring safety standards, and driving continuous improvement across our mechanical engineering functions.

What you'll be doing

• Overseeing and managing all mechanical equipment, machinery, and systems within the facility to ensure efficient operation and minimal downtime
• Developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules
• Leading and supervising the mechanical maintenance team, providing technical guidance, training, and performance management
• Conducting regular inspections and audits of mechanical systems to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
• Managing budgets for mechanical maintenance and equipment procurement, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value for money
• Liaising with production teams to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize operational disruptions
• Troubleshooting complex mechanical problems and implementing solutions to improve system reliability and performance
• Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards
• Planning and coordinating major equipment upgrades, repairs, and capital projects
• Maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mechanical efficiency and reduce operational costs

What we're looking for

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualification
• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering or maintenance management, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery operation, and maintenance practices relevant to manufacturing environments
• Strong understanding of predictive and preventive maintenance methodologies and best practices
• Proven expertise in equipment troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and problem resolution
• Experience in managing maintenance budgets and controlling operational costs
• Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management
• Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards (such as OSHA or Malaysian workplace safety requirements)
• Proficiency in maintenance management software and computer systems
• Strong organizational and project management capabilities
• Preferably, experience in the paperboard, packaging, or manufacturing industry would be advantageous
