About the role
We are seeking an experienced Operating Theatre Nurse to join the team . This is a full-time position based in Selangor, offering you the opportunity to deliver exceptional perioperative care in a dynamic healthcare environment. As an Operating Theatre Nurse, you will play a critical role in ensuring patient safety, supporting surgical teams, and maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique and clinical excellence within the operating theatre.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing and maintaining the operating theatre environment, ensuring all equipment, instruments and supplies are sterile and readily available for surgical procedures
- Assisting surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures whilst maintaining strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
- Monitoring and recording patient vital signs and responses throughout surgical procedures
- Counting and managing surgical instruments, swabs and other materials before, during and after procedures to prevent retained foreign objects
- Positioning patients safely and securely on the operating table according to surgical requirements
- Facilitating clear communication between all members of the surgical team to ensure effective coordination
- Managing patient handover to recovery services, providing comprehensive handover information regarding the procedure and postoperative care requirements
- Maintaining detailed and accurate records of all procedures, interventions and patient care provided
- Adhering to all healthcare regulations, safety protocols and infection control standards
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of theatre practices and participating in ongoing professional development
What we're looking for
- Current nursing registration with the appropriate regulatory body in Malaysia
- Formal qualification in theatre nursing or operating theatre nursing from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in an operating theatre environment
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and infection control procedures
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment and theatre protocols
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and other healthcare professionals
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- Physical and mental capability to stand for extended periods and manage the emotional demands of surgical nursing
- Flexibility to work varying shift patterns including on-call requirements
- Current CPR certification and willingness to maintain professional certifications
- Experience with electronic health records and theatre management systems is desirable
