Preparing the operating theatre environment, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and materials are sterile, properly functioning, and readily available for surgical procedures
Assisting surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures, passing instruments and materials as required whilst maintaining sterile technique at all times
Monitoring patient vital signs and responding promptly to any changes or complications that may arise during surgery
Maintaining detailed and accurate records of all procedures, including instruments used, swabs, and specimens collected
Providing compassionate pre-operative care and support to patients, including patient education and anxiety reduction
Delivering post-operative care and recovery support, monitoring patients as they awaken from anaesthesia and managing their comfort and safety
Collaborating effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other theatre staff to ensure smooth and efficient surgical operations
Adhering strictly to infection control protocols, health and safety regulations, and hospital policies and procedures
Maintaining proficiency in emergency protocols and responding calmly and effectively during critical situations
Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement through ongoing learning and professional development
Current registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body or nursing council
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in an operating theatre or surgical environment
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anaesthesia, and post-operative care protocols
Excellent understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control principles
Proficiency in operating theatre equipment and instrumentation
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Ability to remain calm, focused, and organised under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation
Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods during lengthy procedures
Commitment to patient safety, dignity, and privacy at all times
Proficiency in English language, both written and verbal, to ensure clear communication with the surgical team and patients
