Job summary

NovaAir Industrial Gases Sdn Bhd is seeking a Mechanical Technician to perform routine inspection, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors and piping systems. The role involves welding, fabrication, pipe fitting, and supporting shutdowns and turnover activities while ensuring safety and quality standards.

The candidate will collaborate with mechanical, electrical and instrumentation teams and may travel to company sites and customers as required to support

Qualifications

• Experience in routine inspection, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, turbines and piping systems.
• Ability to perform welding and fabrication per site standards and safety requirements.
• Knowledge of safety, environmental and quality standards and related ISO/standards.
• Willingness to travel to company sites, customers and suppliers as required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily inspection, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
• Perform fitting, assembly and alignment of components including bearings, seals, couplings and gaskets.
• Execute welding and fabrication jobs per site standards.
• Assist in shutdowns and turnarounds, equipment dismantling and reinstallation.
• Identify issues, develop corrective actions and support cost-efficient maintenance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and inventory records and collaborate with other teams.

Job description

• 1. Responsible for routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, and piping systems, including:
• Carry out daily inspection and routine checks of mechanical equipment.
• Carry out daily maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment.
• 2. Perform fitting, assembly, and alignment of mechanical components including bearings, seals, couplings, and gaskets.
• 3. Execute welding and fabrication jobs (pipe welding, structural welding, repair welding) in accordance with site standards and safety requirements.
• 4. Conduct pipe fitting, flange management, torquing, and gasket installation.
• 5. Assist in shutdown and turnaround activities, including equipment dismantling, overhauls, reinstallation, and welding repairs, while supporting engineers in executing annual overhaul plans, major maintenance, and the installation and commissioning of upgrades and new projects.
• 6. Identify equipment issues and develop and implement corrective action plans.
• 7. Support engineers in proposing spare parts and external service requirements for maintenance, while optimizing repair costs.
• 8. Support root cause analysis of mechanical failures and propose corrective actions.
• 9. Ensure compliance with ASM Kuantan safety, environmental, and quality standards during all maintenance and welding activities.
• 10. Maintain accurate maintenance and inventory records, including work orders, spare parts usage, and equipment stock movements.
• 11. Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams to support plant reliability and assist engineers in factory standardization initiatives.
• 12. Participate in developing training plans and implementing annual training programs.
• 13. To undertake any additional duties, responsibilities, or temporary assignments as may be required to support evolving business needs, operational priorities, or strategic initiatives of the Company. This includes adapting to changing work requirements to ensure continuity and effectiveness of business operations.
• 14. To support, participate in, and assume roles related to any management systems that the Company subscribes to or intends to be certified in, including but not limited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, HALAL, GDPMD, and other relevant standards.
• 15. To travel to company sites, customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, or other relevant locations as required to fulfil business, operational, audit, compliance, or customer-related needs. Travel may be scheduled or ad-hoc depending on business priorities.
