Job summary

TECAN CDMO Solutions PN Sdn. Bhd. in Penang is seeking an R&D Mechanical Design Engineer (Automation) to lead design of components for automated liquid handling platforms, collaborating with R&D teams in Switzerland and the US.

You will drive DFMEA and DV&V, perform tolerance analysis, apply GD&T, and push for innovative, manufacturable designs while maintaining documentation and working with customers and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
• Experience in R&D / new product development, preferably in MedTech or life sciences instrumentation.
• Automation experience would be an added advantage.
• Experience taking products from concept and prototype through to design transfer.
• Familiarity with ISO 13485 design control processes is a plus.

R&D - Mechanical Design Engineer (Automation)

Your Contribution

In this varied and exciting role, you will work as the responsible Mechanical Design Engineer within a dedicated R&D team that develops customer specific prototypes and small series. You will be designing components and subsystems for Tecan's next generation automated liquid handling and life sciences instrumentation platforms, operating with a customer centric, lean, and agile mindset, and collaborating closely with R&D teams in Switzerland and the US.

Lead diverse new product development and design engineering activities, contributing technical expertise to R&D projects from concept through prototype

Carry out hands on design iterations and small adaptations in the prototype workshop

Define and apply modern development methodologies to generate forward-looking, innovative solutions

Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T for new designs, materials selection, and FEA / simulation as needed

Drive DFMEA and design verification & validation (DV&V) activities for new products

Maintain comprehensive project documentation and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external customers, and development partners

Your Profile

We are not only looking for technical expertise: we are looking for people who bring their passion and talent to what they do.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent

Solid mechatronic knowledge and proven practical experience as a Mechanical Engineer in R&D / new product development, preferably in MedTech, life sciences instrumentation, or a comparable regulated industry

Having automation experience would be an added advantage

Demonstrated experience taking products from concept and prototype through to design transfer, not limited to sustaining or manufacturing engineering of existing products

Familiarity with ISO 13485 design control processes is a plus

Strong know-how in Value Engineering and Design for Manufacturing (DfM)

A team player ready to take on both technical and entrepreneurial responsibility

Very good Creo / Windchill and SolidWorks skills are a significant advantage

Good written and spoken English
