Job summary

Nobel International School is seeking a Maintenance Assistant in Malaysia to support day-to-day operations and maintain the school's facilities. The role includes monitoring power supply, conducting regular inspections of classrooms and offices, and coordinating with the Facilities Manager on preventive and corrective maintenance.

Responsibilities include handling electrical and mechanical repairs, safety compliance, and assisting with event setup.

Responsibilities

• Monitor provision of a stable power supply and consumption.
• Perform daily inspection of classrooms, staff rooms, admin spaces and exits to ensure reliable power, emergency lighting and wiring.
• Alert the Facilities Manager and person-in-charge of any unusual occurrence and/or damage.
• Schedule and conduct preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on building systems.
• Install emergency lighting and backup power supply as emergency measures.
• Direct traffic for arrival and dismissal of parents' vehicles and assist students with bags.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff to ensure safety standards and compliance.
• Keep records of inventories of tools, equipment and storage of excess furniture.
• Carry walkie-talkie or mobile phone for on-call maintenance.
• Assist in monitoring works by outside contractors/service providers.
• Assist in procurement of building fixtures and construction materials.
• Assist in setting up classrooms and the school hall for events and activities.
• Other tasks to support overall building and facility maintenance.

Job description

It is the role of the Maintenance Assistant to assist in day-to-day operations and to assume responsibility for maintaining the physical asset of the property and proper operation of all aspects of its building and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Systems and Inspections

Monitor provision of a stable power supply and consumption.

Perform daily inspection of classrooms, staff rooms, admin and management offices, escape routes and fire exits to ensure non disruptive power supplies, emergency lighting, electrical appliances and wiring.

Alert the Facilities Manager and person-in-charge of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or that may occur.

Schedule and conduct consistent, regular, periodic preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and repairs to building structure such as the maintenance of building systems (windows, roof access, etc.), wiring works, installation of lights, paint works, plumbing works, water supplies and flooring maintenance and the building main facilities such as ventilating and air conditioning system, lifting equipment and other office equipment. Locate and correct problems before breakdown occurs.

Install emergency lightings and backup power supply as emergency measures.

Electrical and Mechanical Repair and Recovery Services

Attend the service repair request. General guideline on turnaround time: before 12 noon – same day. After 12 noon – the following day.

Complete all maintenance requests as assigned according to the procedures, standard operating procedures (SOP), service level agreement (SLA) and compliance to all health, safety and security rules enforced.

Complete and maintain records of repairs and periodic service maintenance done.

Daily reporting of work requests, work done, pending and waiting for stocks.

Improve efficient functioning of electrical and mechanical equipment and appliances as in door closer, auto gate, lifting systems, firefighting systems, electronic locks and access.

Replace faulty items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, lightings or wire.

Attend the power failure for restoration of power supply whenever required.

Traffic Flow Control

Directing the traffic of the School for arrival and dismissal of parents’ vehicles and assisting the School children with their bags upon arrival in the morning as well as easing the traffic during dismissal hours in the afternoon.

General

Work well with other maintenance workers as a team.

Ensure compliance to safety standards, local, City, State and federal guidelines in the execution of duty.

Ensure completion of work activities are done in a fair, ethical and consistent manner.

Keep record of inventories of tools, equipment and storage of excess furniture.

Follow and adhere to company policies, rules and regulations.

Carry walkie-talkie/mobile phone as required for on-call maintenance.

Assist in monitoring all works being performed by outside contractors/service providers such as pest control, waste management, cleaning and repair works.

Assist in procurement of building fixtures and construction materials (i.e. specification and contract negotiation).

Assist to set-up the classrooms and school hall for school activities and events such as examination, PTM, Awards Day and others.

Other tasks as necessary to support the overall building and facility maintenance.
